That was the exact same for me, so far I've played five rounds in my Collingwood season, Travis Cloke has been judged best on ground in four of them (hmm..), and the game where he didn't get it was against Carlton, and Judd was awarded with it.

Big Ant bias is alive and well I see. ;)

^^ Most of your complaints stem from not knowing the controls and how to play. Give it time, RTFM, master the controls and you'll enjoy it a lot more. You won't be the first to eat your words.

Nah amte, Id have to agree, Ive been playing it for a while now, and stepping back and comparing it to other sports games for that price, its a complete rip. The bugs are terrible.

-Picking your team OMFG is all i can say who ever idea it was to make picking you starting team like that need taken out the back and hit over the head. How easy and common scene to have a photo of a ground with the players names. and make it simple to change and fix players.

Overall id give it a 2/10 and that 2 is only for trying to make a AFL game

See my post here and hopefully this will help with your Team Management issues.

Couldnt have said it better myself! Especially the RTFM part!

Yep, sure did put them away. It might well be the best AFL game yet, but not sure what this means, just because it's an AFL game I have to play it? I appreciate how AFL could be quite difficult to create, but I can't pay $110 for this. This is not because I am a bad player and it's sour grapes, ask the boys on bigfooty who couldn't get within 10 goals of me! Look, it's a starting point, and they will work on it, hopefully take into account some feedback from everybody. It's something to build on for the next title.

who would? it's $79/89 at most in stores!

the only downer is the camera view, the default view is the best, but it's still too far, if it were 10% closer it would be a lot better.

You can go in closer I believe (haven't played with the multi angles much)? I guess the issue is when you zoom in you lose the view of further up the ground.

this game is a lot more enjoyable once you figure out how to win taps in the ruck and how to kick properly to your team mates. took about 3 games to figure it out and it's gone from a handball / tackle fest to a pretty enjoyable free flowing game.

I definitely Lol'ed at that bit. :D

But seriously, once you get use to it, it is extremely fast and easy.

I have noticed that as I go about my daily life, I find myself singing "Holy Grail". Anyone else have this issue?
Yes! That's why I turned music off. I did this yesterday arvo and I still have it stuck in my head...

pretty impressed at the details of the stadiums for example they have the sign at Subiaco that says "Chris Mainwaring Wing" and they also have the Ted Tyson sign in one of the stands.

confused at why freo's heritage jumper is their away jumper from last year, also noticed in one of the tutorial pictures they have freo's green, red and purple jumper, some of the jumpers are also a little bit off.

would of rather of had the yellow eagles jumper....

I don't understand why it can't be a one touch system. If you are going to use this lock on system, why can't we just press x, even if they are 50 metres away? If you are locked on to a player sprinting out to the wing, it would be kicked to his advantage, etc. I also think that things like stab passes should be automatic when kicking to a leading target while sprinting. Maybe use the modifier with pressing square to just boot it long if you are trying to get a quick clearance kick or have a quick shot at goal from the stoppages. That would be a low percentage kick, but that's real.
Ok, I don't want to have a go at you too much because you're a good bloke. But this is a BADDDDDDDDDDDDDD idea, VERY, VERY bad.

It's clearly a balancing issue for why they don't allow perfect 50 metre bombs every time from just a click of the X button. It simplifies the game way too much and on top of that is the one of the biggest reasons why the previous AFL games were dross.

You can't make things like kicking it 50 metres easy because then it turns the game into JUST that, kicking 50 metres everytime and just getting too close to your goal in too little kicks. Occasionally you'll be able to go end to end in a few kicks like this, but that's the way it should be...occasionally.

If you get some time and space in the game you can get a nice big kick out and bomb it long to a target. If you're not getting the time and space you'll be able to put a 10-20 metres kick out. This for me is absolutely perfect and stops the game from being way too simple and easy. I get your frustrations, but for the sake of the game staying challenging this style HAS to remain.

I do agree about your tactics thing, would like to see more than just a few options for this and that and be able to open it up a bit more (but again can see why for balancing issues this is not the case).

Dude, why would people do anything that would potentially learn them the game more? They've played A game so they should instantly know how to do everything and dominate every difficulty.

**** me I've never seen people hate games for being challenging as much as this one.

I agree, much rather clicking on a player in a specific position and getting the best rateds for those positions.

While it's confusing at first and a big step away from what we traditionally know, I really like how easy it is to select the best player for specific positions as quick as possible. It's arguably what takes me under 60 seconds to change about 7 players in my line up so fast online than the regular template everyone wants.

Probably the only one that was allowed to be licensed at the end of the day?

Few things that are really starting to annoy me is the players on my team always run away from the ball and play on their opponent 20m behind them but their players are always right freaking next to my guys, its so freaking annoying...

I don't mean for the kicks to be lace out on the tit every time, I hope you didn't think I meant that. But that's fair enough and I understand that, because yes, as you said, the way the game is meant to be played, when you have the space and time you can get a nice long kick in. I still think there should be some type of clearance kick. Something just to boot it a little further from congestion, or to have a pot shot at goal. Some low percentage kick, but yes, I understand why it's not there.

And it's not just on the users end either, I am talking about the AI too. This is probably my biggest gripe, as I was slightly annoyed that I beat Collingwood on legendary by 220 points by making Hudson an attacking ruckman. He kicked 20 goals, it would be good if the AI at least tried to counter that somehow. It's these things that just disappoint me a little, not so much general play etc, because it's very rewarding to chip the ball around in general play, get a chain of handballs, slot some goals from the boundary, etc. Tactics like flooding, forward press etc, would be sweet, but a ballbreaker to get right, so I can understand that, for sure.

I love the challenge of it. I've said this many times before, but because of how tight the games always are with stoppages etc, the feeling when you're 20 metres clear of the nearest player and hit some lace out on the lead is unbeatable. :thumbsu:

I've just figured out how do use the lock on system and it's working well, although I'll never try and outmark someone as spoiling is the way to go. I haven't yet used the bump to its full effect, basically because when you're in a pack it's instinctive to just go for the tackle and the bump doesnt always pay off.

The evade seems to go alright, has worked well from what I've done. Punching in the ruck is effective if you can direct it, but the majority of the time it hits the deck and turns back to a 50/50 again.

What I don't like is how easily the defenders can muscle you out of the contest at times. If I have the front possie how do I keep it? Still a bit confused on this one, and I have read the instruction booklet cover to cover a couple of times. Couple of tips wouldn't be too bad. :)

I do get what you want and mean. But I really dislike the idea of having anything that can potentially open up too much space with a kick. The tight space and having to work to your own free room is probably my most liked part of the game, if just for the reason it is SO unlike the other AFL titles.

Oh k I get it. Maybe a dynamic tagging system? There's been stuff like that implemented in games before, if someone is dominating or playing too much of the same way the AI will adjust to fix that and stamp it out. Probably best seen and used in the cricket games.

Also just a couple of other points for me.

Raise the kick in camera a bit. It feels to low to really be able to see your targets properly. Having tons of trouble as it is with kick ins, but the camera angle doesn't really help being too low from it. My options at the moment are basically just to play on and boot it as long as I can atm. Raising it another 5-10 metres higher would make it a bit easier to see the options up the ground.

Would also maybe like to see some more battling in the marking contests, perhaps I'm missing a little something here, but I find a little much that if you're not in front you can't really get in front and have to spoil more often than not (only really on the contests that you're looking at for more than a good couple of seconds). Now I know this is on the realistic side that if you're out of position you need to spoil or will find it tougher to mark. But I find that my KP forwards quite often start from behind and for someone like a Jack Riewoldt (since I've used him more than anyone, I'll use him as the example) I find myself getting goals more from in-play than him actually taking a big grab and converting. The only reason I can usually take the grab is by out-timing someone (someone who usually doesn't have the grasp of the mark/spoil down yet) in such a marking contest online.

Exactly. I would've expected the opposite ruckman to become a defensive ruckman at least to play on him. Maybe after the 10th goal!

Also agree with the kick in camera, it should be higher, or even have the option of keeping the side view when kicking in, I don't see why that kick can't be the same as other field kicks. Although that's my been my favourite part of the game, and most challenging, stab passing to somebody from the kick in, and going end to end from there.

Something I am really loving being someone who has played 90% of online matches so far. The badge system, really, really well implemented.

So much rather an online badge system than having all this shit put in towards trophies that I may not want to go for. But with the badges I just get it for doing what I do naturally.

Still yet to get the BigAnt employee badge, but will keep trying.:D

I hear you. :thumbsu:

Going coast-to-coast by using the ball smartly and hitting your intended man in the forward 50 is a marvelous feeling.

I am beginning to enjoy this game the more I play it. It has its flaws but this would still be the best AFL game to be made. Im mostly an online player so the lag free games are a big tick. I am hoping in the patch that you are able to save your online tactics setting and team because you simply cannot get it all done at the moment. Good job Ross & Big Ant Studios on the solid game.
