Oxford defines a cult hero as: a writer, musician, artist, or other public figure who is greatly admired by a relatively small audience or is influential despite limited commercial success.

^ there is not one Swans player who fits that description better than Robbie Fox.
Rustycreativity defines cult heroes as never the best players in your side, and they should always have at least one massive weakness which you love them for.
Fox doesn't have a weakness. He can ruck, play small and tall.
Ruck Jesus is old and injury prone and too poor to afford a haircut..

Fair enough. I will always defer to Rustycreativity.

Have said it before and I'll say it again rusty. Before I die whenever that will be, I hope to see the concept of what a "superstar" is in our sport undergo a complete transformation. Because it's way off the mark at the moment IMO.

(And the concept of a cult-hero needs to change too while we're at it.)

Unfortunately, we have borrowed far too much from the USa and this is one thing thay are big on. They have the Star Cult, the Cult Hero, the Super Hero, all designed by Hollywoofd and now infect every facet of their society. On the other hand they also invented the Cult of the Villian, the Murder Cult, the Serial Killer Cults too. America totally embraces the extreme in our society. For instance I would not call Heeney as star, not yet, but he hasthe capacity to ber but in USa parlance he is a star. You are a star there if you win at Knuckles lol

Yep, was allowed to play in his ideal position all season and to the surprise of no one he played a lot better as a result.
I agree. George was always a really good mid if he was allowed to play his real role. But Longmire almost killed his career by playing him as a defensive mid and nothing else. Longmire did not rate him and once again he was wrong. Rohan, Hewett how many more will we lose due to them being played out of their positional strengths?

He is a non descript sort of contributor in games. By that I mean you don't automatically notice his contributions to the team. He seems to fill in any gaps through the midfield in a workman like role which has a touch of class about in the way he goes about it. He is not surgical, but he just gets the job done. I think the fact that he is not flashy in the way a Warner is, or is not as dominating as a Parker leads many to think he is not as effectual. But he is.
He is a far better kick than Parker

I think you do not understand what cult hero is. Cult hero is one who appeals to the masses. Because of whatever reason. That is it.
What you want someone to be is entirely different. You cannot make someone a cult hero via logic or sound reasoning.
it isn't actually;

Cult Hero

a writer, musician, artist, or other public figure who is greatly admired by a relatively small audience or is influential despite limited commercial success

LRt was a cult hero because he had limited ability, a strange haircut, a funny grin and appealed to a limited audience, Swans fans and not all of them either. he also helped big time to win us 2 premierships which helped to turn ihim into Hero Status not just Cult Hero status.

For instance, Ayers Rock were a Cult band because they did not sell many discs but their music was excellent, just not commercial.

Yes there is... RJ!

He is our cult hero...

Pat Drummond was a cult hero... had a 40 year career in music as an independent, and never made it big...

But play every Friday night at the Rest Hotel in North Sydney for 10 years! That's a cult following!

You are letting the facts get in the way of a good story.
A good story is written by a writer. I am writing this story and I am not a cult hero.

I think Rustycreativity's description best fits LRT as a cult hero.

I believe you can have more than one cult hero.

What has happened to BF? First of all it was in reader mode, and now there are no page indictors... no options to go back a page or two...

And the writing is too small for me to comfortably read!

Not happy Jan...

EDIT: page indictors are back

So I guess we are officially in the depths of off-season with bugger all news.

56 pages and counting on the main board in the thread;

If Dustin Martin wins a 4th Norm Smith medal and premiership will he be regarded as the greatest player of all time?

My own view is that if Chad Warner wins 6 Norm Smiths in his 6 Premierships ( to go along with his 5 Brownlows) then he could be in the discussion.

We really do need a scandal or two......Lyon back at St Kilda....surely the two go hand in hand with a scandal or two.

So the Saints FF is now getting a clearance to North to be with her 6 year partner , now what if it was Max King moving to be at another club with his partner , different times

Rewatching the prelim. Such an exciting and high quality game but there's a definite "moments before disaster" feel to it. When the final siren went, I half expected Morgan Freeman to appear in the commentary, saying, "...but it would not be a happy ending for the team in the red & the white."

But holy shit does it make you realise we actually wouldn't have even been in the grand final if it weren't for Gulden and Rowbottom. Much of the conversation was around Papley's controversial mark and goal, and Mills' dying stages spoil. I'm not sure either of those things matter, or happen at all, if the two kids aren't literally carrying us to the finish line to stop the Collingwood onslaught.

Oh and this moment had me in ******* tears!!
