Actually the more I think about it, the attacking team probably are allowed to knock it through their own goals, so perhaps this shouldn't have been a free-kick after all.

Nope still a free kick regardless who does it. If the defensive team does it, the point is awarded and free kick paid to the attacking team for the point of where the contest took place (so basically a 7 point play) and if the attacking team does it, the point isn't awarded and the free kick awarded (no point play).

I just find that too hard to believe, it just doesn't make sense that if scores are level with 10 seconds to go, the attacking team can't slam the ball through for a rushed behind.

A quick google of the Laws of the Game appear to back this up, but happy to be shown otherwise...

15.7 FREE KICKS – DELIBERATE RUSHED BEHIND -
15.7.1 When Awarded (a) A Free Kick shall be awarded against a Player from the defending Team who intentionally Kicks, Handballs or forces the football over the attacking Team’s Goal Line or Behind Line or onto one of the attacking Team’s Goal Posts. In assessing whether a Free Kick should be awarded under this Law, the field Umpire shall give the benefit of the doubt to the Defender.
15.7.2 Taking Free Kick A Free Kick awarded under Law 15.7.1 shall be taken from the middle of the goal square if it crossed the Goal Line or at the point where the football crossed the Behind Line or from the relevant Goal Post.

There is nothing there which talks of a free kick against the attacking side?

Hi guys
Not sure where to post this, so apologies in advance. Have just finalised a trip to swans/hawks game with my swans loving brother & sister. Been many years since I've been to Sydney and nobody's been to SCG. I come in peace, any helpful hints, advice, suggestions?

Where are you sitting? The game will be a sell out so it's best to arrive at the gates 45mins or so early to ensure you can find your seat and grab a beer or food if needed. What other info are you after?

O'Reilly concourse. Got tickets awhile ago. 60 odd bucks each, any good?
Just stuff like you mentioned, that's helpful. Easy to navigate? Easy in and out? Not really sure, having never been there I just threw it out and seeing what comes back.

O'Reilly concourse is great, so long as there is no rain. You get a nice view across the ground towards the Members & Ladies stands from there. Opposition supporters bay isn't too far away either, underneath the Bradman/Noble stand.

How are you getting to and from the ground? Are you staying in the city?

Cheers, good to know seats are good. Yes hoping for no rain but it's always a factor. Not sure yet about transport. Driving to Sydney, hotel and google maps say it's a 9min drive or 30min walk from room to ground. Best bet?

I should have said its in edgecliff, looks like a main road, looks fairly easy before asking the question.

If you're within a 30min walk of the ground, your best bet is DON'T DRIVE. You'd need to get there super early to get in the parking area and after the game it could take you 45+ mins from getting to your car to finishing that 9 min drive back to the hotel. Also easy to grab a taxi, bus etc in that area.

Depending on which way you're walking there are plenty of decent pubs and restaurants that you can sample. I quite like Trinity Bar, The Clock Hotel, The Beresford, Captain Cook Hotel - obv the closer you get to the ground the more crowded they'll be.

That was against Essendon at the Dome, but we were defending, not attacking....
I have a footnote for this, apparently the umpire in question contacted the club to apologise for the incorrect decision. From what I can gather, there is no law restricting you from punching the ball through your own goals, it only applies to punching it through the opposition goal.

Uber is you friend.

Jesus Christ, Goodesy can't even do a gig on Play School without having racist comments flooding Facebook by *******s.
Yep seen it a couple days back. On the official fox footy page too. You would think they would moderate that a bit better

In getting the stats together for my most recent 'Josh Kennedy is underrated' MB post, I discovered that JPK received 0 Brownlow votes in 2010, despite being 9th in the comp for clearances, and a grand total of *3* votes in 2011, after leading the league for clearances and ranking 2nd for contested possessions.

What the?!
