Tom went to my childrens' primary school. We should pray that Barry wants him to play for us. He also played at Ashburton Redbacks where my boys play (Nick Smith's junior club as well) & was an absolute given to play AFL such was his talent there!

Barry is an assistant coach at Freo ATM.

Did Roos and Mitchell play together at the swans or did miss each other ? Wouldn't be great to pick up a gun through the F/S for a change after seeing how clubs like Geelong have benefitted with it in building their list up.

Paul Roos and Barry Mitchell played against each other mostly while Roos was with Fitzroy ('82-'94) and then Swans ('95-'98) and Mitchell was playing with the Swans ('84-'92), Pies ('93) and Carlton ('94-'96). So they never played together in the same team. Not in senior football anyway.

Barry Mitchell, while an excellent player with the Swans, after his short stint at Carlton and then joining the Blues, became an assistant coach at the Blues ('03-'07) until an apparent falling out with Dennis Pagan.

He seemed very loyal to the Blues until that time, so I hope he doesnt have any negative influence over where his son plays.

That should have read, "Barry Mitchell, while an excellent player with the Swans, after his short stint at Collingwood and then joining the Blues, became an assistant coach at the Blues ('03-'07) until an apparent falling out with Dennis Pagan."

Will remember to draft read better next time.

Must have played 100 or more games to qualify under F/S now i believe due to one of many collingwood championed changes to the rules of late.

Well thankfully we are safe, he does look like a great pick up. As long as the rules havent changed again by then  .

2011 seems a long way off. Seems a pity to have to wait so long. I remember Tim Watson playing his first game when I believe he was still only 15. Justin Fletcher was another one that played his first senior game when he was only about 15 also. He used to come to training in his school uniform.

You would think a father would have to have very strong reasons to advise his son not to go to a club. Secondly, I am sure he is just keen to get onto an AFL list so you would think he could make his own decision if offered a spot on the list.

Yes, I'm sure Barry (his father) will be a strong influence on his playing future and which club he plays for. I think Sydney are a very different club to the one Barry Mitchell left in 1992. Our player welfare and the management of the club is a far improvement to those days.

From the reports on Tom, I think there will be many clubs keen to add him to their list.

As mentioned in an earlier response, Carlton managed to hijack Brisbane's hold on Marc Murphy under the father/son rule. Marc was eligible to go to the Lions, but is now at the Blues. Apparently, "Alternatively a player has the right to decline to be selected under the father-son rule and instead be eligible to be drafted by any club." as seen here at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Father-Son_Rule

On a whole we need the clubs boffins to look in to and research ways of increasing the chances of male babies being born

1. No mobile phones in trousser pants ( Microwaves people )
2. No 2 minute noodles (microwaves again)
3. Tight fitting pants and smalls ( restricts blood flow knock on effect )
4. Handling or residing near high voltage power sources
There maybe more here is your chance to help our great club.:thumbsu:

Who of the current or recently retired bunch of 100 plus games Swans have boys out there right now? Who can we set our eyes on in 15 or so years time?

Kirk has a son who looks to be around 5 or 6 years old and i know Michael O'Loughlin has a few kids but i don't know if they are male or female.

As for retired players i know Paul Kelly has several kids so hopefully they will be coming through the system in the next few years.

PK has 5 kids I think. At least two are boys.

Maxfield has a son.

Luffy I think has a son.

I think Cressa has 3 kids - one boy I think.

Kirk has a son.

Micky O had a second not so long ago. His first was definitely a girl but I think the second is a boy.

Monty had one recently. No idea of gender.

ROK has one due soon.

Leo and Mathews have some. No idea of details.

My god! Why do I know this stuff:confused:

Its important information. I don't really care about the private lives of our players but it is important for them to have as many talented sons as possible.

I for one would be very happy in 5 years time if our midfield had a few Kelly's, a Maxfield and even a Luff in the team.

It will be 1996 all over again :D

Benny Mathews has a boy, that i know for sure. And yeh now i think of it im pretty sure Mick's 2nd is a boy too.

Jude and his mrs need to pump out some kids. If they're boys they'll be great footballers, if they're girls they'll be rediculously good looking. It's a win-win.
