If the storm beat St. george and Brisbane beat the Dogs, there will be an all-interstate GF in Sydney.

What would be the reaction in Sydney to this? Would it be seen as a crisis of NSW Rugby (like that of the AFL in Victoria, which is a beat-up) or would people not care?

If this matchup did occur, it could potentially be the biggest rating GF of any code in Australian sports history.

I for one think the chances of an all-sydney grand final are more likely than an all non-sydney grand final.

However:

There'll be some media bleating making it look like a fuss, but the general population wouldn't fuss.

You know I don't think it'll rate as well in Sydney, mainly because the Broncos play dour footy and are seen as the c*nts who started super league, and melbourne have a low profile in Sydney too, so not that many people will know how high a quality of football they play.

I mean if they had the profile the raiders did in the early 90's, i.e an outsider team that played attractive football, they'd attract a lot.

There is no doubt if it did happen, with the Sunday evening prime time timeslot, and a guaranteed million fans in Melbouren watching (and about 700,000 in Brisbane) coupled with the usual million in Sydeny that it would be the highest rating Grand Final of any of the two major codes in history.

The only other competitor would be a Swans vs Bris Lions Grand Final played during prime time (if the AFL ever held a GF during prime time.) That would be the only Grand Final that could deliver a higher rating.

No real crisis. The Grand Final will still sellout. There might be questions of why the grand final will be held in Sydney for the next 5 years though.

The AFL had a close to perfect Grand Final ratings with Sydney in it. I don't think it will top last years AFL ratings though.

I would say if it ends up Storm v Broncos:

Sydney: 1 million
Melbourne: 1 million
Brisbane: 850,000 (NQ got 800,000 last year)
Adelaide: 50,000 (if delayed)
Perth: 30,000 (if delayed)

Dont forget the Regionals for NSW & QLD which are massive...

Serious question...

Ratings will be big but is there any fear of this potential GF NOT selling-out Telstra Stadium?
No fear at all.

The current sales went faster then any other time and at prices much higher than last year...

There are a lot of people who would be desperate to attend this fantastic sporting event.

Obviously everybody wants their team to win, but if their team isn't in the game, then they still want to watch it, no matter where the teams come from. Especially if you have two good teams in good form. And if Brisbane and Melbourne win this week, that'll be the case.

Personally, I'd love to see Brisbane v Melbourne, but I have a feeling it won't happen. I think at least one of the Sydney teams will win.

The Broncos play a game of attractive footy in my opinion. Massive forwards and classy backs.

I think that the winner of the Saints/Melbourne match will win the GF. Either way, both games will be crackers. :D

It will sell out, the general tickets went on sale months ago and this also leaves time for teams of the competing sides to buy in closer to the date.

I think a Bulldogs v Storm would get the most ratings - Brisbane will watch no matter who plays, maybe take off 100k for them if it's not the broncos.

Absolutely.. they were pushing how filthy Sydney was that Melbourne won in 1999, but I, and almost everyone I knew were hoping the dragons got thrashed - but it was even better how it went down to the last minute and mundine's bombed try cost them the premiership :thumbsu:
