Potential training breach?

He isn't randomly posting on girls posting provocative pictures

Yes, he could have just not posted, but hell it is pretty harmless

What if he posted it to an AFLW player? Similar scenario. Poor judgement.

Hmmm - don’t think I’d put it as high as an official exemption.

I think it’s more likely we call up PC Plod and ask if we’re able to train in 2’s as per AFL rule. We neglect to mention this is a self isolation situation. We get the all clear...hell you can go in groups of 10 if you like. Maybe it got lost that we were actually self isolating, not residents.

Then away we go. I don’t think there was ever any formal exemption, otherwise it would likely be in writing and we’d be waving it around
News channels went with the "exemption line" last night.

To get any sort of rules for a group of 16 players you'd need to go high up. I think this is why SAPOL acted quickly with a feather duster.

PC Plod would likely be Linda Fellows who enquired on our behalf. You’d think key details were lost along the way.

Might agree to disagree on this one. An exemption is an authority - it’s definitive. It’s not a miscommunication issue.

That would be more likely to ocurr in a conversation over the phone - much easier to cross wires in that scenario.

I’m not suggesting we’ve done anything deliberately wrong, I think we’ve made a mistake for sure.

Did we though? I think what’s happened is we thought we could.

The SA Police Commissioner was pretty clear that we broke self isolation rules, but that it was a genuine mistake and communication issue. Therefore we copped “education” as opposed to a fine .
No the Crow obtained permission beforehand it was the biggest single biggest reason they decided to place the 16 players at Novotel Barossa,
The Commissioner was clear that a misunderstanding of the information and very clear it was OK to continue with the training,
He was clear the Crows did not breach any rules,
The education was around the possibility of more than 10 which was reported at the time and the 1.5 rule,

Agree with the last bit for sure.

Bit of a stuff up by all parties.

Nicks is in a tough spot but too apologetic for my liking. Said it was an innocent mistake but when pressed on the penalty we may receive if any he stated he didnt want to elaborate. I feel he could have elaborated and put the incident into a better context that it was purely an error of judgement by young kids. Everyone makes mistakes and i am sure other clubs have. Doesnt sound like there was a lot of direction at the training. Not really sure why they didn't just isolate at home. Pretty sad this is even a story.

Don’t you think both SAPOL and the club maybe made a mistake? We wouldn’t have bothered with doing this exercise of staying at the hotel if it hadn’t been discussed with SAPOL that we could train outside as well. There are conflicting reports from journos on the agreement in place too. They would’ve fined us if they thought we were solely at fault.

Well no - he was quite clear we had breached rules. Quite clear.

And he’s also been clear they can’t continue to train in pairs, they have to stay in their room and can only do any training alone.

They may have thought they’d obtained permission, but were mistaken on that fact.

Because it was a mistaken belief the cops went easy on us and didn’t fine us.

Correct - it could have been a dual mistake, or just one party’s.

We don’t really know

Well they couldn’t really admit it was a mistake on their behalf either, that would’ve caused more uproar from the public who think people in higher places are given quarantine exemptions. None of us are going to agree on this anyway, are we? Probably best we put the argument to rest and allow you to call out the flogs on Twitter!

Like he said, isolating at home isn't an option for the kids as most of the host families either work or would be going back to work in a week or so. You can't have that

Also, keeping your fitness at home for 2 weeks is much more difficult. Running around an open park is much more appropriate.

This is the issue with AFL have thrust upon the sides west of Horsham. The season is to start in roughly 6-8 weeks, 2 of which those sides have significant numbers of guys who can't train much at all.

It is a ridiculous notion that they've labelled in the interests of fairness..... ****ing LOL

They can continue to train that’s in line with their elite sport

And this is exactly what the AFC should be pushing back on.

Forget how incompetent we are to constantly have issues, but this should be the angle;

“It’s an Innocent mistake, and we’re obviously disadvantaged by the amount of interstate players we have. We took extensive measures to try and mitigate the issue, but obviously there was a miscommunication amongst a couple of the involved parties. It’s been clarified now, and it won’t happen again, and we are currently seeking further comment from the AFL on the disadvantage we face; and how it can be rectified.”

He has been sidelined a fair bit in the last couple of years, you barely see or hear from him. It's great.

Then he does something like that.

Not really ideal to have to sideline your own COO though, if he's not doing the job they should sack up and fire him.

Yeah - if you read the quote, it appears we had no exemption at all and we should have been in our rooms.

They’ve gone very soft on us though so I’m thinking someone has gotten the idea from SAPOL it was ok to go for a run and kick in pairs, when it wasn’t ok at all.

It was something that had concerned me from the start. Why were we so special that we could avoid the self isolation law? - we weren’t, and that’s why the AFL will ream us

Or they've just gone soft on us because of the optics of the situation.

It's not like there isn't a long precendent of police from every state having one rule for football players and another one for the general public.

Seems crystal clear to me know, we thought we had exemption based on discussions or correspondence with people who had no such authority. Copper says we’re now going to be applying for exemption from the correct authority.

Thank you for bringing a voice of sanity to this thread that people actually listen to.

Points are not really a penalty imo. We aren't contending. Any punishment will not stands up in court anyway so it's all moot. The WA and SA premiers united could very easily shut the comp down. If Marshall had any backbone this whole issue would have been shutdown 2 days ago. Lastly Fagan should keep his mouth closed. Any idiot crisis manager would tell you not to say we will accept any penalty. WTF, does he work for Victorian clubs?
State we will fight any penalty as the system is f’ed and completely Vic centric.
Not really sure what you expect Marshall to do. It's not his job to advocate for the crows.

He did a presser, maybe yesterday, and said if the season was to resume with interstate players expecting to fly in for games that will not happen.

Fairly unambiguous I'd have thought.

That's where having a strong chairman helps. Eddie would've done exactly that if it were the pies. Essentially would've dared the AFL to class it as "cheating" by being strong on the front foot.

Whilst we've got SA hide and seek champion Chapman as our beacon of shining light........
