According to Ten news our final practice match will have the Power vs Saints as the opening act for our game vs Sydney. Something about helping low crowds. Did they say it was definently happening?

Re: Crows/Power double header

Actually I'm pretty sure they mentioned that our game would be second.

I just hit rewind on the IQ.

Next friday night. Free entry to season ticket holders and AAMI stadium members.

Port vs Saints followed by Adelaide vs Sydney.

Sounds terrific. Personally i'd love to be there to see our last hit out. Nothing like seeing a game in the flesh and a couple of games for the price of one i assume is a bargain in anyone's books. Hopefully the gate rate is reasonable. :thumbsu:

What time does it start????????

Id watch both games if its free. (Send the tickets already AFC)

But cant get there untill 3pm, at the earliest

Edit: sorry I dont do that class anymore, so ill be there no matter what. Unless it starts at midday

There are no details regarding the NAB Challenge double header on the AFC website as of yet and neither Seven nor Nine had any mention of the event first reported this afternoon by Ten News.

I would presume the first game (Power/Saints) will begin at around 3:00 or 3:30 yet no later than 4 pm so as to allow St Kilda to catch the last flight back to Melbourne on Friday evening.

If this is the case, expect the Crows/Swans game to commence at approximately 6:00 or 6:30 pm with match concluding under lights.

Thanks, I thought so too :p

In fact I only signed up at that stage to ensure that nobody else had taken the name by the time I was able to commit myself to becoming a regular constructive contributor to this great board.

More than likely the Port game will start around 4-4:30, with the Crows game starting at 7:30-8:00pm. If the purpose is to maximise crowds they'll probably put the Crows game on as late as possible so people can come from work etc.

I think its a real good idea if it was on a Saturday.

3 on a Friday? why bother? (awaiting wisecrack about crowds being similar to regular season)

well I won't be there, slightly involved in a fringe show of which that is the opening night. Would have been nice to see the last hit out before the season proper.

They have obviously thrown the towel in in regards to crowds. Even the Crows game starts too early in reality.

Agree that on a Saturday that would be really good times.

Agreed Macca, have a couple of Port mates and we would have been interested in heading down but really what's the point we all have to work and they will miss out on most of their game.

More AFL stupidness.

What would be the reason why this wouldnt be on Saturday?

If I dont have to work then ill be making the drive down for the games, but I may be one of about 50 for the Port game.

On a Saturday...double header, free entry for AAMI/Season ticket holders, great value...you'd be pushing 10k at least id say. Id even want that to be an annual thing when both clubs are out of the PS cup early.

Seems like a wasted opportunity to me.

Shurgs shoulders, got nothing but then again I am a normal person with common sense, not a person getting paid massive bucks running our national game making stupid decisions like this.

Exactly, have a few Port mates who declined due to work.

FFS could of been a great day if on a Saturday. Crows and Port game on same day.

Then again they may not want too many people there as it is a free game. You would get mid 40s there surely.

Playing Sydney at least we should have one win this preseason.

When I first saw this I thought it was absolutely ridiculous. A double header is great in theory and would have been fantastic if it were on Saturday.

How can the AFL possibly expect that Port fans can get out to the footy at 3pm on a friday? They'll get far less people out there in total than if they'd played 2 stand alone matches at decent times.

The cynical amongst us may suggest that they don't want any games being played at the same time as the grand spectacle that is the NAB cup GF. (ie Sat night) They want us all at home bumping up the tv ratings.
