Once again I am amazed that people will complain about not being allowed to bring prams into restuarants and that newspapers will run the articles.

Firstly a restuarant has no obligation to accept any person. They are no different to a hotel that declines a person it believes will cause trouble or is drunk. It is after all their business and they can run it how they like.

Secondly prams are a massive OH&S risk. The take up large amounts of room and make it difficult for staff and other patrons to move about. Imagine the outcry is a bowl of hot soup was spilt on a baby because staff couldn't move around safely.

Thirdly other patrons need to be considered. Whilst a baby is asleep all well and good, but they do wake up and I for one (I also have an 8 week-old baby) would not want to be sitting anywhere near a crying baby if out for dinner. If I knew a restuarant that was going to accept prams then I would avoid it and so too would a lot of others, thus costing them more money than the pram pushers bring in.

Parents need to consider the enviroment in which they take their children. Just because they want a fancy dinner doesn't mean it is safe for their child. You should become a parent because of the love you can give and get from a child, not because you think you should or because your friends are having kids. Too many young parents these days think that they can continue with their pre-baby lifestyle once they have a child, all I have to say is get your head out of your arse and start doing what is best for your kid not you. If you only care about yourself then put the kid up for adoption so he/she can have parents that will actually take proper care of them.

In that one instance, it appears that the restaurant manager acted sensibly. It would not make sense to allow a dangerous situation, but prams should not be banned from everywhere. Horses for courses.

I know of eresteraunts who encourage bike riders and parents to come to their business by providing pace for them to leave their wheeled transportation at while they dine. Good initiative.

ive got no problem with but i also like the OP...

people know what they are in for, don't get all sooky over shit like this... just move on and eat somewhere else.

i also agree with the op that you see couples have kids and think that life just goes on and they do what they do before, but now with a 6 month old hanging around your neck.... well, that's just not how it works and that gets found out sooner or later.

God society shits me sometimes. A pram cannot be accommodated for legitimate safety issues and the mum whinges to the papers. It's sometimes impossible to tell which is the baby with all the whaaa whaaaa whaaaa whaaa from the parent.

/rant.

Irony.

Prams in Restaurants is simply the next annoying phase Young couples go through.

It first starts with the little cute flufffy puppy that they have to take everywhere, and want to be able to sit and drink their latte alfresco and actively seek out venues that offer dog treats and drinking bowls.

whatever phase of your life/relationship you are in, there is always something that pisses off people in a different phase of life.

How about those old folk with their electric scooters in restaurants:thumbsd:

You must be one of those knob-end parents who thinks that everyone around them should move heaven and earth to accomodate your little bundle of joy:rolleyes:

No, I think everyone around me should move heaven and earth to accommodate me.

Thanks for posting though matey :thumbsu:

My wife and I have always been conscious of where we park our pram and the behavior of our children. I'm not suggesting it's appropriate for the local fine dining establishment to take on small children but if the local cafe owner wants to ban my children, they won't be getting my business when my kids are elsewhere either.

It can be handled sensibly.

Oh, c'mon...... The complaints might be about "safety" but it's really about amenity. If my kids are in a good mood and I want a coffee, I'm having one.

Nah. All tables were taken and they could only be seated at the bar. Meant the pram, if kept next to the parents would have blocked a fire exit and been in the path of serving staff carrying plates. Legit safety concern, just look at the photo.

This is why God invented Sizzler.

I like your thinking. :thumbsu:

My idea if hell is hanging out for a light lunch with a decent coffee and my cafe of choice is chockers with prams by the local mothers club who have hogged available floor space with their prams and other offspring who are running amok while they take 2 hours to sip their low fat lattes. Meanwhile cafe owner is losing money from prospective lunch paying customers who have turned away upon the sight of wall to wall prams.

Sensible parents of a small baby who want to go out for the odd bit of fine dining at night book in early, opening time, if they can't get a baby sitter. Times sure have changed, I can count on one hand the number of times my family went out for dinner while I was a child. Usually the local Chinese was about it.

I was replying more to the general premise of kids in cafes etc than the specific situation in the article.

It's like smoking, breastfeeding and prams should also be banned at restaurants. Even the playing field. If you want to breast feed you can, but do it outside with the smokers, and leave the pram at home.
