AFL Round 8 Melbourne V Western Bulldogs

Well at least we beat them for frees for and one percenters.

Do we bring in the Russian? I think with Frawley and Rivers going down I don't think we can afford Martin pinch hitting in the ruck as it would leave Warnock as the only tall. I'm aware that the Dogs aren't tall down forward but I think we need the two talls there at all times.

We can probably get away with a lack of height against the Bulldogs, must include another ball carrier at least,Newton will probably get another a go,would expect that we will take it right up to them, think they will win by around 20-30 points!

You would expect Bruce to take Johnson has he has done so well in the past. Warnock to take Welsh and I would play Martin on Minson, as in he follows him every where- Forward and Ruck. The rest of their forwards are not overly big so we could play medium and small defenders on them. McNamara must play I would think. How is Bell travelling?

Can someone please explain to me everyone’s obsession with Liam Jurrah getting a game at Melbourne. What’s he done at VFL level?

I don’t get me wrong. The man will (with a bit of luck) be a freak but the man is fragile enough, so lets not go dumping him in the AFL before he’s ready.

I agree but only one person (so far ;)) has said bring in Jurrah.

As of late the talk of bringing him in has quietened down quite a bit.

Bailey has shown this year a penchant to make as few changes as possible.

There won't be any surprises. Cheney and one of McNamara/Bell I would assume.

OUT: Frawley and Rivers
IN: Cheney, McNamara

Bell is not doing enough. Jetta still needs a run at Cassey. McNamara is also a nice fit for the players who are out.

Based on my pure assumption, is Bennell just being rested and after a good game so as to not dent any of his confidence, and maybe spend more time with his family in WA. All apart of player management and adjustment. Jetta too was over here last week, I assume he was an emergency. Just a theory.. so has Bennell been named for Casey?

Also I thought we had to elevate Valenti first before we gave him a game? Who went on the LTI list, I've completely missed that...

My gut feeling is that we could well win this.

Especially considering that last year against the Bulldogs we were within 5 goals, and even with the insane injury list, we're stronger in every respect than we were that time.

It's a shame this match isn't on FTA, because I reckon it could be a very good one...

Might be a UStream option available this week as well for those of us who are out of range - I've got a contact for the guy who ran the WCE game last time & I'll prob ask tonight..

I'm sure Bennell is just getting a rest, no need to ruin the kids body in his first year. Would prefer to see McNamara get a go ahead of Cheney but can't complain with the other 2. This is Valenti's big chance to prove he can be more than a great VFL player, he got some experience last year and has form in the VFL, time to produce.

Bulldogs are far too good to lose this match.

This is how we'll line up:

Whelan - Warnock - Bruce
Morton - Martin - Dunn
Davey - McLean - Bartram
Bate - Miller - Sylvia
Maric - Robertson - Petterd
Johnson - Jones - Moloney

Cheney - Valenti - Grimes - McDonald

Match Ups

Warnock on Minson
Bruce on Johnson
Martin on Murphy
Whelan on Akermanis
Dunn on Hahn
Morton on Hill

Lake on Robertson
Morris on Sylvia
Williams on Miller
Gilbee on Maric
Hargrave on Bate
Harbrow on Petterd

Bartram and McDonald to alternate tagging Cooney, Griffen and Boyd.

Probably the wierdest I've seen the team line up on paper but anyway.

I would have thought they could have brought in Spencer even at the expense of Bate, if not then McNamara definently.

would have liked.....
