Most Improved: Harry Miller, Has had another great season, but has brought his form from the practice matches into competitive matches as opposed to last year. Has freakish abilities and is a pleasure to watch, look out for Miller this year, look for him to try and cement a spot in the team and look out for him in the midfield in the future.

Most Suprising: John Barker, Even though he didn't play the majority of the pre season, the game against St.Kilda he looked like he wa getting back to the Barker of old, a very smart player, he leads well and to the right spots, and is a good mark and a great set shot for goal, lets hope he can carry that form into the season, because the Hawks are going to rely on him.

Player on the chopping block: Danny Jacobs, As much as I hate to admit it because I though he was a great pick up for the Hawks, Jacobs looks laconic and appathetic on the football feild, and can be very frustrating to watch. He needs to lift his intensity and actually LOOK like he wants to be out there. If he does, he could be the suprise packet of the Hawthorn season, if not, look out!

Pre-Season News

*Hawks get their men. Hawthorn's strategy in the 2005 draft was simple - to target the best tall talent in the country. And after a surprise selection of Jarryd Roughead at number two and Lance Franklin at number five in Saturday's National draft, they got their men.
*Vandenberg handed Hawks captaincy despite Crawford claiming he wanted the job back. Richie promises to lead by example and never let the team down. Says he is excited to lead under Clarkson.
*Crawford impressive in loss to Port. Shane makes his comeback game after spending most of last year on the sidelines. Lance Franklin, Josh Thurgood and Harry Miller also impress in loss at AAMI Stadium.
*Injury free Pre-Season! Hawthorn has gone through the pre-season with out a major injury to any key players for the first time in many years. The Hawks took a cautious approach with Jon Hay, Shane Crawford, Danny Jacobs, Ben Dixon, John Barker, and Peter Everitt and they all look to be fit for the start of the 2005 season.

interesting view...

brave move putting the weagles at the top of your ladder..
although i believe they are a good team , i think losses in melbourne etc.. will hurt them a bit too much...

these are some things i'd like to see..

( agreed ) barker to have an injury free year ....

holland to do anything...

franklin , miller , thurgood , taylor and lewis to be given substantial game time..

crawford to have brownlow season form..

everitt to stay focused and out of trouble..

vandenberg to step up to captaincy..( lame pre-season )

williams to hand in his gun..

boyle to debut..

dawson , roughy , kirkby , little , murphy , height to show promise for boxhill.

mitchell to capture rising star form..and step up ..( down last year )

jacobs to prove his worth...

cambell to start backing up spider..

johnny hay to prove his worth and stay un injured...

brown and osbourne to recapture form shown in first year..

brennan , kane , ladson , ries , lonie , clarke and greene to take the next
step and be consistant solid hard at it players...

bo nixon to prove the pies and critics wrong..

no off field drama's...

a tough hard fighting spirit shown every week..

the hawks to beat the bombers..( please god let it happen )..

the hawks to finish above richmond and beat them twice..

the hawks beat collingwood

the hawks beat the dorkers..

the hawks beat the dees..

the hawks beat the roos...

the hawks beat port ..( unlikely but hey , cant hurt )

the hawks beat the swans , doggies and crows...

no wooden spoon...

i'll be happy with that... :D

I had a chat to Matt Little last night, he he payed for Box Hill over the weekend after recovrtin from ankle surgey.

Matt's an old high school mate of mine and really do hope that he gets a few senior games in his first year, as his dedication and general footballing skills are second to none.

Did anyone see him play in practice match over the weekend ?

after leading the goal kicking last year for the TAC comp , and his club the cannons who i think won the final then matt little certainly has something to offer us in the future..he is apparently not a tall kid but has good hands, takes a good mark and has a good kick.. will be a handy forward pocket target...
