Can't help but wonder what Symes is even doing on the list now
Last player to be re-signed, one year deal, if last years draft was better, he was gone. Would need a seriously good year to survive, but I'm curious on how he goes under Sando as a more physical type....hopefully being used as an inside player more than a wing/HBF with no kick.

Whilst everybody is entitled to their opinion, it’s childish quotes such as this that are driving people not to respond any longer. I’ve noticed a huge difference in the lack of quality posters who don’t appear on here any more, due to what I believe are stupid posts such as this.

Pity really.

You can be civil for goodness sake if you don’t agree with somebody.

Maybe date of birth should appear with each persons post. It would be interesting to see if a lot of the unnecessary/spiteful/antagonistic comments can be chalked up to immaturity but i suspect a lot of people just arent aware of the tone of their posts.

Symes played his best footy as a defensive "wingman" rolling back into defence and filling the hole in the zone. Unfortunately the more astute coaches (e.g. Mick Malthouse) recognised the advantage (for them) of Brad being the ball carrier out of defence which exposed his bullet-like kicking technique. Last season in the first 15 games Hendo was used to drop back from the high half-forward role into defence and used as the transition player out of defence.

We will use a new forward set-up this year (possibly 2 up front with a narrow diamond?) so Brad may be back in favour. He is courageous and knows how to find the ball but unfortunately fails to hurt the opposition.

Good comment. Totally agree.

Maybe if we knew from the outset that we would take 4 ND picks, Symes wouldn't have been offered a contract, allowing us to take a chance in the PSD on McCauley, Urquhart, somebody like that. As it turned out, we unexpectedly found a quality youngster in Ellis-Yolmen at pick 64, meaning we had no need for the PSD. Just a hypothetical scenario relative to the strength of the draft.

Either way, Symes is probably good insurance if we have injuries like we did early last year (and 2010), or Freo had at the end of the season. Fingers crossed he never plays more than one or two games.

Going by what players are posting on Twitter, looks like the young guys are back this week for a development camp (Smith & Jaensch tweeted about it), but the older ones come back next week (Otten & Petrenko were asking how each others breaks were going & Kurt posted a photo of someone (may have been him) jumping off a waterfall yesterday - assuming he's still in QLD).
But the Crows tweeted someone today saying the first open training season is at 9.45am on the 12th.

Just heard on the news that there was an injury blow to a player at training. Anyone know who it was?

When asked on the Adelaide Crows Pride FB page, Katrina Gill said she assumes it's about Jarryd Lyons - he landed awkwardly in a marking contest & jarred his knee but he's fine - looked worse than it is.

Definitely Jarryd Lyons.

CH 9 had vision in their 6 pm news of him limping off after a heavy tackle rubbing the back of his head for good measure.

The club apparently are saying that there is no structural damage and he'll escape with just a jarred knee.

When training is physical, and it has to be to make it second nature in some players' make-up, there's always the risk of this or worse happening. It goes with the territory.

Luckily it's only a jarred knee then, really hoping to see Lyons break in for a few games this season.:thumbsu:

Juxtapose with, our previous recent pre-seasons where poor player management left us injured... The result is the same, but we got injured in a much more positive manner?

I think he was alluding to the fact that in the last few pre-seasons, guys were dropping like flies. It wasn't just the occasional incidental contact injury.

Not in the 2011 pre-season they weren't. We had an (almost) full list going into the MMC, from that point on we lost 2-3 players per week to bizarre contact injuries.

Your comments are, however, entirely valid for the 2009 & 2010 pre-seasons. Pre-season training underwent a major revamp last year, which significantly reduced our pre-season training injury count.
