it all comes down to whether cox, kerr and lecras can get firing

our second tier is apparently not yet up to it so we need those stars in top form. when they are, we can beat anyone. when they're not, well... we can get beaten by almost anyone

lolwat.

Naitanui and Shuey are our top tier.

The ball coming to us was nullified because the person getting it was always were Richmond expected - nigh wanted - him to be. The tackles were being laid upon receipt. Sure we had variation in taps coming forward, backward, side-to-side, but they almost always shared a couple of traits: they were designed to come in close into the path of someone running through the stoppage. We worked in close, and Richmond was expecting that; as a result their pressure started around the stoppage and came in, so our paths collapsed and our runners were tackled without a chance to dispose and they were right on top of us to get the spillage.

We needed to broaden the area around the stoppage and getting Cox/Naita to try and get distance to the taps so those receiving the ball couldn't get hunted down in packs and would have space and time to work with.

Again, Priddis being so restricted on the night was due to Woosha losing the coaching duel with Dimma, not a result of personal limitations. And believe me, I swore at Priddis on the night as much as anyone else, but in the cold light of day, I can't knock him for a clearance situation that wasn't his fault.

You won't knock a guy who tries hard in spite of his limitations.

So tap it into space for Priddis and Kerr to use their superior pace to run onto it. I like it.

It's not like this hasn't happened before over the last few years, Adelaide last year, Fremantle in round 1 both spring to mind.

Yeah was meant to be a fake cranky post in reply but it comes across as serious.

The last line is meant to be read by the head of Richard Nixon.
That wouldn't happen to be a Futurama reference, would it?

Mark Robbinson said we can not win the flag but if we get it right wr should trouble a lot of teams..i thought this was a pretty good assement.
To be honest this is what I want from the season, among a couple other things
a) Let's fix the game plan (more emphasis on young midfielders then game plan built around priddis) and start playing some attractive footy
b) blood some youngsters where possible (Wilson, Newman, Colledge)
c) limited game time to the no game time for the guys past it (embers, selwood etc)
d) Trouble some good teams

If we can do that I'll be pleased. At this point I don't really care if we play finals but would certainly like to take a few scalps and get some positives from the season.

And there will be some positives from the season, I think in particular the likes of Gaff and Shuey will take a lot from this season.

It wasn't even Priddis' limitations I was talking about, the stoppage set-up was hamstringing us because Richmond had figured out how to dominate it. We had to get outside the ring of pressure they were applying to the stoppages. We needed space, inferior pace or no.
And yes, teams can do this to us, which is why we need Plan B's.

That is why I am shipping the blame on this to the coach's box, not to Priddis.

After 10 rounds in 2011 we were 5-5 before going on to win 11 of our last 12.

I wonder how many people predicted that at the time

Yes, we were playing better footy back then and those 12 remaining games then weren't as difficult as the 12 we have left for this season but I thought it interesting in any case.

Back then we were happy to have won 1 more than the year before..but i see your point and anything can change from now till the end of the season.

Is anyone else here 'impressed' that GoEagles got it right 2 years in a row? Where have they gone and can you give me the lotto numbers GoEagles?

i reckon he is worsfold himself.

that or a deprived lunatic that is obsessed by fortune telling and cursing and deserves to be burnt on the stake which im more than happy to participate.

We should be ****ing 7-3, those ****en losses to Carlton and Port Adelaide really ****ed us big time.

to be honest i reckon 9-1 is more correct. our only horrid loss was hawthorn. everything else was winnable.

maybe. Hypothetical(s) aside though, I dare say we are pretty much where we deserve to be, especially based on performance.

freo: deserved loss

hawks: deserved loss

Melbourne:deserved win

carlton: meh, we didn't play all that well. 30 to 29 scoring shots suggest they didn't kick too well either. Close one, but I wont claim that we should have won this.

Port: should not have lost.

Bulldogs: deserved win

Brisbane: we were maybe a bit lucky, the score flattered us to be honest.

North: I think we were the better team (kicked poorly also), but we played terrible.

GWS: deserved win

Tigers: Deserved loss.

we haven't been close to 9-1 imo, I think 6-4 is plausible (7-3 were winnable based on the game) but overall 5-5 (and the teams we have beaten) is a fair indication of how we have performed

I don't expect to make the finals this year, but it would be a happy surprise if we did. Still, there's not much point limping into the finals, as was proven by North last year.

North won 14 games last year but would have made it with 13

If, and its a big if, we get to 13 wins we will have won at least 7 of our last 11 games against quality opposition so would hardly be limping into the finals

It's possible this year to make the finals with 11 wins and percentage.

The way we play at home this year, letting sides run with acres of space.. Essendon will absolutely slaughter us, suits them perfectly.

I think if we can beat the Bombers at home that could be a real turning point. At this stage it's unlikely though

After losing so many home games plus away games we should have won it doesn't look good at all.

We simply have not played anywhere near our best football. Injuries to Naitanui, Waters and Wellingham are a factor but no excuse for the overall poor form of the side.

Worsfold will retire and there will be a change of the guard at seasons end. A Selwood, Embely and Nicoski will be let go. Hams, Dalziell will follow and Mitch Brown traded. Glass will possibly retire as well.

Who will be our coach will be very interesting.
