Well, Nick's making no bones about it again this year, and he's not apologising for showing his hand.

"I know you can get criticised from different people for saying as a club and as a team we want to win a premiership, but that's what we're saying," he said yesterday.
"And we don't think we are that far away."

This from a piece by Mark Robinson in today's Herald Sun. Link:

Also the AFL2010 magazine is free in the Herald Sun today. They have Collingwood's premiership clock at about 7 mins to midnight, and of their experts, only Jackie Epstein tips the Pies for the flag - which is fine.

Every team wants to win the premiership. It is why players play the game. So I don't see a problem when our captain or our president comes out and says it.
Don't be so sure. I am certain that if you were a genie and you offered a 17 year old wanna-be footballer a career in the AFL, copious cash, chicks and all the extras that come with football at the top level, but said on the flip side that he could never win a premiership, most would still jump at the chance. Once they are in the system and with a career looking certain I believe that a premiership would be their main motivation.
Having said that, Come on Pies. Give us a freakin' premiership!

It's a loose fitting lid. :thumbsu:

Lid comes off.
Lid goes on.

There's no reason at all not to make comments like Nick's.

Simply put, the Collingwood Football Club has to believe it is a realistic "contender" for the 2010 AFL flag.

As someone mentioned, every team wants to win the flag and that is the "aim" at the start of the season, but basically only 4-5 teams each year are realistic chances of even making the Grand Final, let alone winning it.

We as a club have played in 2 prelims and a 2nd week final in the past 3 years, that shows me we aren't far off, and that the inclusions of Jolly and Ball and the improvement of the rest of our list means we have to aim high, and there's no higher then a flag.

2010 is a real chance for us, Geelong may be past their best, StKilda rely on 2 players (Hayes and Riewoldt) and I won't apologize for saying that I believe we could beat the Dogs in a Grand Final.

We are a chance, keep talking it up, if not just to piss the rest of the league off even more then we do.:D

It's at odds with the Pies site story about us keeping a lid on it.

Don't quite agree.

Big difference between saying we are aiming to win a flag, compared to saying we intend to/should win a flag.

Just following on from last year's stated ambition of trying to win one.

Precisely. Why do they even bother to play at all if this is not their goal?

I wish for once Nick, Ed or anyone else at the club would STFU about premiership aspirations. It's fine to have them, but keep them in house. Every year it's the same crap at this time of the year and nothing happens.

Good on him. Thats the whole point off the season, to try to win the premeirship.

Absolutely nothing wrong with these comments , the whole competition knows we are in position to do it .

Carn The Pies .

When I read that Herald Sun magazine yesterday, I got the feeling that theis ^^^ is very true, but they're worried that we might realise it, and are collectively standing on our lid.
