I'm calling it...

Malthouse specifically said the challenge for O'Bree is to get back into the side, he is definitely not dropped for the season. It was a standard pre game presser.

I'm still pretty surprised it sounded so painful for Malthouse to drop him. Yeah he's been at the club as long as you, yeah he's your buddy but christ Malty, look at the bigger picture. Do you want to be super best friends with O'Bree or do you want to win a flag?

But unless you have some kind of major injury, not much point retiring early in the season. Maybe he's had enough of mdc's biting satires.

That was a long thread to wade through for apparently nothing... What a bunch of poo.

I think Mick might have been more focusing on the leadership Obree creates at training and on the field...

It's clear that O'Bree is going to struggle to get back in the team with Ball fit.
It's a similar situation to that of Cloke and JA in the team.
It's not only a space issue, but speed.
With both O'Bree and Ball in the team we are very very slow around the stoppages.
Ball will shine with O'Bree not there.

It was iether O'Bree or Lockyer.
And Lockyer still offers a lot up forward.

It's a good move imo.

Collingwood meets Hawthorn at the MCG on Saturday night and has made two changes to its side - one being the omission of veteran Shane O'Bree.
Malthouse said the decision to axe the reliable midfielder was among the most difficult of his past 12 months.
"Unfortunately you use the word 'omitted', which is for the media … he's been a little bit of a victim of us making sure that through the pre-season competition we elected to play some players and not others early," he said.
"The goal now is to ensure he gets back into the side playing the way we want him to play.
"Professionally it's an easy job [to make the decision but] emotionally it's certainly the toughest thing I’ve had to do this week. That or [in] the last year."
