Im thinking I’ll do a bit of pressure act analysis of the boys who n more detail this year. The club has treated like gold last year and previously and we are to be to team known for pressure.

Just looking tonight Sam Walsh is already leading the game at half time with 15 is huge. As the game opens up with the 666 rule this stat will be even more valuable.

Typically SPS had d high rating in this stat as does Curnow. They are near snouts to players in the contest and get these in a canter. Murphy has been
Known to pick then up when fit also.

I’ll do a run down of tonight’s game (I know it means little at this stage) as it’s an indicator of players that are putting the effort in defensively. You don’t get a stat but you impact for your mates out there on the ground.

Knew Cuningham would be there.
Some of the things he did may have been invisible on the screen, but quite evident at the park.
Little taps to advantage, shepherds, tackles etc.

Won't get the accolades of others but just quietly...Bolton will be thrilled.
His handball under pressure to Gibbons for a goal as lethal. Terry Wallet is a good judge but he called him ‘bog ordinary’. You’re wrong mate. He’s far from it

How about we see if he can do it in Rounds 1, 2 & 3 before we unknot our knickers. Liking the signs between this week and last though. A bit more intent about his work so far.

SPS - 26
Walsh - 24
Setterfield - 20
Fisher - 19
Cuningham - 18

What a top 5. The future is here. How good was cunners tonight around the forward 50 clearances.
That's what happens when you hunt the ball and the opposition.

I remember that and came across as an odd call from someone (to me at least) who has a good read on things.
I always felt watching Cuningham, that he was his own worst enemy and that may well come about again, but he has tricks, as we saw the last two weeks.

Shoot me down for this, but I feel he just needs to be loved and I got the impression three months ago that he now was. We'll see.
Self efficacy precedes self confidence. He needed to know he ‘can’ do it. He’s beginning to know he can. Self confidence will come. In some ways he reminds me of Kouta. Not a ‘natural’ player in many ways. Doesn’t know where the ball is going. Has natural gifts though. Over time these sorts of players get better and better and better.

Oh and NO I’m not saying he’s as talented as Kouta. I’m saying he reminds me of him in the sense of ‘lots of gifts/can’t read the play well/low confidence’

You can always impact a contest, even without the ball.

The commentary team fawn over the high possession winners and flashy types, will be good to acknowledge the team role players.

Top 5 today a great sign.
Gibbons - 28
Cuningham - 19
Setterfield - 18
Fisher - 18
Dow - 16
Surprisingly Walsh and SPS weren’t up there this week. Murphy on 14 goes to show how far off the pace he is and how little he cares for preseason. He was well into the 20s most games in 2018.

I reckon we gave away about three down the ground frees yesterday too, but I'm ok with that. After Sidey, Crisp, Pendles and co had way too much space in Q1, I think we got the pressure to where it needed to be. I liked that Polson, Fisher and (I think) SPS took the opportunity to plow into the opposition and let them know they had a bit less time to kick than they thought.

Polson has a long way to go, but some signs there yesterday that he can be useful. And Cuningham really looks to have got himself into good shape and the right role. Hope he can stick in the 1s this year and keep that goal kicking form.

Funny how they never go back the other way for the exact same things. Only one thing is set in stone in this competition. Collingwood get more free kicks and have less against them. History shows it.

Thanks, I didn't think the differnce was that much. I assume we had 15.
A lot of HTB for them while Carlton get the HTM (holding the man) when they drop the ball. Always been unfair on the Carlton tackler. Pisses me off no end.

At one stage in the 3rd quarter there were 5 HTB free kicks paid in a row (all to Collingwood), more than you will see in entire games sometimes.

I'm all for paying HTB free kicks, but it has to be all of them or none at all. You can't have a situation with a number of HTB free kicks get paid & then someone gets in the ear of the umpires during a game & suddenly the free kicks dry up.

Today’s top 5 (all below the top 4 on the ground from Richmond)
Cripps - 21
Walsh - 21
Dow - 20
Setterfield - 19
Fisher - 18

Now that’s a great start for our midfield group.

Not surprisingly the Richmond players are all small forwards. They love to sit out the back of packs and crumb the freebies. I wouldn’t call all of them pressure acts.

I doubt the Richmond forwards are being credited for pressure acts when they crumb the freebies. Confirms what we already suspected that our forward line needs to get far better at applying defensive rebound and stopping the rebound. We saw some decent signs in JLT with Gibbons, Cuningham and Polson. But we obviously need far more. Other than the goal Fasolo kicked, think everyone would be a little disappointed with what he produced.

I want Fasolo dropped! We don't need another marking target when we got Charlie, McKay and McGovern - gecko hands! Cuningham, Gibbons and perhaps Polson.

Also Garlett dropped imo.
