Who thinks its a good time to give presti a breather and let LK have a run?
couldnt do him any harm, the coasters would be a good test for him. I think we can afford the risk with Maxwell back in the side, L. Brown another option to throw down back if Keefe struggles??

I would much rather have presti rested and ready for finals.

We can't rest Presti until Nathan Brown is fit and available.

Looking at the draw, we will need Presti against the Aints, and even against WCE this week, so I'd say wait till we play Richmond (Ben Reid or Brown can take Riewoldt) and Carlton (Setanata O'LOL) and Presti can have a week or two off then.

First we secure a top 4 spot, then we start talking about ressting players for the finals.

Lachlan Keefe will not be promoted this season, I'd put money on that.

He had a few weeks off early in the season and he had another weeks rest last week. Its as if hes on his last legs with all these calls to 'rest' Prestigiacomo. Hes looking as fit as ever and his speed is still good.

Maybe later in the season if hes looking tired but Im not big on on seeing Presti run around in the magoos or sitting on his back side.

He's just come off a break, has only played 7 of 13 games to this stage of the season including an extensive break between rounds 5 and 9. That and his obvious replacement is currently out injured. I'm for him being rested later in the year but I don't think now is the time for it. Also if we were to bring anyone in to cover his position it would have to be Anthony based on his VFL form, Goldy and Leroy would be ahead of Keeffe too i'd say.

cheesy was interviewed after last season and said we peaked to early, me thinks the coaching staff are looking to get players in and out of the team to make sure we get the mix right, fit, and firing come the right time of year. Looks ok ATM, and even though they're down this year, I don't think we can relax against anyone.

we've also been pretty good at the timing of introducing new players, so maybe LK's not ready in the eyes of the coaches....?

Presti always takes a while to recover from injury and a while to find top form when he comes back. DO NOT rest Presti. We CANNOT win a GF without Presti in top form. Our Backline is build around his solid contesting and blanketting while providing coverage for his fellow backs. He had a lsow start after interruption and now he looks back in town. Keep him playing and in form. If we get 10 in front at half time give him some bench time but's about it.

my only concern is that he has long stints on the sidelines in previous years and we would really struggle without him come finals.

I think thats fair and agree with you in principle. I just don't think now is the right timing given his rest earlier in the year and having just come off the split round. I'd perhaps look at another rest around or after the St Kilda game.

I think it would be a lot more difficult to win a premiership without Presti. But I think thats the case for resting him as he has been troubled by injury the last few seasons and really entered last years finals series dead on his feet and in poor form. I think resting him at some stage before a month out from finals is the way to go. That way he's had three decent spells during the year and you'd hope he'd be fit and firing come finals. He'd also have a solid month of footy leading into the finals so should be in top conditioning.

I was pretty adament he should have been rested against Melbourne on the basis of him not having a match up and that would have given him a fortnight off. As it stands his just had a week and certainly looks fresh, keeping up with and smashing Goodes is a hard task. I agree that he should be maintained throughout the year to ensure he is fresh and fit for the finals but I think there will be other matches that calls for that due to lack of match ups.

I think Presti needs continuity and touch. He doesn't have great athleticism or skill to rely on he just wroks hard at what he can do in every contest. I'm not sure how bad he really was in the finals. The way I saw the finals is our ruck and midfied got smashed to the forwards and backs had it tough. In any case he's had an interrupted year as it is.

I just don't want to mess with a key to our aspirations. If he is struggling for energy/fitness then something would have do be done but unless he gets an injury his fitness base built up over the years should see him through.

I can agree with that. But I also see the flipside and benefits of resting him. I don't really think there will be much of an issue with him finding touch especially if he has a run of games into the finals. I think perhaps ST's suggestion of resting him when he has no obvious match up or like you suggested if he looks like he needs it is the way to go.

In addition, it allows other defenders to be match fit so that if Presti was to go down, it wont be such a breach to fill.

thats another interesting point, and i totally agree. presti wont be around for to much longer, we need to start getting games into the browns, and keefe's, anthonys (and even maxwells as a negating defender).

I also dont think that resting presti for a week here and there would effect his touch nor his confidence.

i do concede however that coming off a break he may be better suited to a rest in a few weeks time, perhaps after the geelong and st kilda games.
