Presti's Future

Presti has a decision similar to that of Jack's.

At the end of the day, Brown and Reid are just about first choice. The arrival of Tarrant also complicates Presti's playing future. If he does decide to play on, it will be as "insurance/back-up" IMO to our young key backs.

Ultimately, the decision should be entirely his. His sacrifice on the eve of the GF was truly inspirational and will never be forgotten.

Really hope the old soldier plays on. Love his work ethic and sportsmanship and after bowing out at the final hour for the grand final I pray he gets his opportunity.

I hope he plays on aswell. Will he be best 22 next season...i dont know. We know that if he wasnt injured he wouldve played both GF's.

Does that mean he's still ahead of Brown or Reid.

For me, having Reid and Brown in the best 22, with Taz there aswell...i dont think theres a need necessarily for presti and i would hate to see him end his career in the VFL

Also, as a side note, when did we upgrade Tom Hunter ?

Stiff for Scott Reed i recon

I hope he plays on in 2011. I still think he's in our best 22, ahead of N Brown, but ultimately Presti's body/injury will determine that, as it did for the GFs.

I think a week ago, Presti was almost certain to retire, but with Anthony walking out, Presti may have a "re-think".

I hope he plays on, and I think he will now, and the decision should be left entirely up to Simon.:)

My money would be on him staying. The club announced just after the trade period that we will have 4 picks in the national draft and with Jack walking out it frees up that 4th spot on the list. I think that it would be safe to assume that the club knew that one was leaving and the other more than likely staying.

We actually have 5 picks now, Tom Young will be our fifth pick in the draft

Sounds right to me.

Tom young already elevated Tom hunter still a rookie, that is a mistake on the AFL site as usual.
Tom Young was never on list in the first place, scholarship holders are not in fact listed

Come draft day when we reach pick 78 or whatever our 5th pick is Derek Hine will say Tom Young, Collingwood VFL, Scholarship holder. The pick is taken but we still technically have a 5th round pick

It's not like Presti is getting too slow or anything. The only thing that would be holding him back would be injuries and mental fatigue. I hope he plays 2011 because he's still playing well, and he can play on more than just big players.

Hi All

I have it on good authority that Presti will retire. He has a meeting with Mick tomorrow and will announce that he is not going on.
It's a shame, given his selfless act, which potentially robbed him of the flag he so desired

Or more importantly, deserved.

Gees I hope that is not true, but you sound like you've heard something reasonably definite.

Great news if he doesn't.

If he does though, he'll go out on his terms, with the love of the entire Collingwood Club and it's army of supporters.

He will be remembered as a legend of the club, strangely almost equally as much for his self sacrifice for the team re the GF, as much as his awesome play and laconic nature over the years.

Thinking back with my limited ability, premiership players are certainly remembered, but legends often are remembered even moreso.

Love you either way Presti :thumbsu:

As long as he is happy to spend time playing VFL footy, I'd love him to go on.

No doubt he will play AFL footy as well, its just whether a 33 year old finds running around in the 2's for as many as 10 weeks very appealing after 15 years in the system.

Love him and hope he goes on, ultimately it sounds like the decision is 100% his, so we can only hope its the right one, which is the right one is a mystery to everyone.

Agreed, we have some premiership players from 2010 who will not be remembered in years to come like we will remember the likes of Presti, Bucks, Burns, Rocca, Clement etc.

Not sure which ones they are, but its inevitable.

True..if we go back to the 1990 GF, I wonder if anyone could find the side.

But alongside the names above...I can just remember Shane Kerrison in the BP, Shane Morwood I think, Gayfer or Crosisca was it, Michael Christian ( commentator) Craig Kelly, Gavin Brown of course, Monkey !!, James Manson or was that his dad's name ( PS i saw his dad died in Tassie the other week, had a heart attack after a burglar came into his house, ****en tassie with it's burglars, that and Port Arthur some of the reasons I left
Tony Francis, Scotty Russell who else ?? Starcevich..oops Tony Shaw, shame on me :o

Anyway not household names some of them...not in comparison to PRESTI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ( not a stat, he just knocked it away...)

I could name the whole side off the top of my head, but that may be because I have the 1990 wall of honour picture right above my PC, so I see it all the time.

But I get what you are saying, Presti will be remembered no matter what happens in the next few days, or next season if he decides to play on.

He is, for me anyway, in the Peter Mckenna, Nathan Buckley, Len Thompson, Scott Burns (etc etc) category when it comes to players who didn't play in a pies flag but are still absolute legends of this football club.

The decision has to be left up to Simon, and if he decides to retire, let him be, but the accolades and gestures of "love and respect" should fall upon his great shoulders if he does retire in the next few days.

He is the only real full back I have ever known at Collingwood (Gary Pert is the other one, but he was almost done by the time he got to us) and thus he holds a special place in my magpie heart.

Better stop now, might have to save some stuff for when/if Presti retires in the next few days. (Please don't Presti, one more year, pleaassssseee):o

I am totally with Matty and Swoop and others re the place where Presti sits at our club.
He is a player, due to a combination of longevity, performance, personality and nature has absolutely captured the hearts and minds of every Collingwood supporter. Just the way he went about his work, one on one with all the great forwards, power forwards, lightning quick leading forwards; Presti matched them all, beat them more than not!!
His demeanour, his no fuss approach, just a modern day legend...

My enduring mind picture of him is, almost shoulder to shoulder with a Hall or Brown or Richo, nailing the spoil then sprinting back with his man to reset for the next contest.

I havent gone of too early here, i'd love him to play on, could eulogise over the Great Presti a thousand times, one of those blokes you just love.
