Thompson used to be good? After 2 games you have come to that conclusion? C'mon you can't be serious and I'm surprised none of you picked him up on that comment.

Why would we? That's your job. The majority of people who'd post in here couldn't care less and nor should we. I don't read your board but i'm pretty sure there'd be plenty Port player trashing going on.

And on Thompson, he's in his 30's now and while still a good player his decline will be quite swift.

Let me put it this way - two years ago, Thompson would get the hard tag. Now it's switched to Dangerfield. That's what I mean by "used to be good". He's not even factored into consideration when it comes to stopping Adelaide anymore. The other three have an x-factor. Thompson is like Sloane - hard working, hard running. If that's your definition of great, then Thompson and Sloane are great. But I don't think any coach lays awake at night thinking "How am I going to stop Thompson?" That was my point in saying he "used to be good". Swap 'good' for 'great' or 'elite' if you like.

Great. Juuuust great. Thompson is nailed-on for a 45 disposal, 6-goal effort now. :p

Port are playing well across the park and this even team performance is what will win us the game. That and the 13 goals Westhoff will kick.

He would be on priority list, that's for sure, he can cut you up on his good day........ has he had one yet the season..? Cut him and you stop danger...

Could Butcher or DStew come in for a ruck - giving Westhoff more of a license to roam?

I really want to play two rucks and try and wear Jacobs down. I have nightmares of his 64 hit outs against Lobbe and Trengove/Westhoff last year. Lobbe can rest forward.

Apparently it's 'disrespectful' to even think about playing Neade against the almighty crows, so we're going to have to drop him for someone.

Who is it disrespectful to, the Cows? Is that because he doesn't have one white parent?

To replace who, Lobbe or Redden?

Any player who gets dropped from the 22 that beat GWS for DStew would have grounds to be traded to another club immediately.

I would say I'm still erring on the side of an Adelaide win, but the I think if Port were to win, it would be a result of our added leg speed that I don't think you guys can match. I would say that at the moment your two biggest X-factors, Walker and Dangerfield, pose more danger than any of our players (Hartlett could almost be up there) but that our increased speed and endurance as a team could be our X-factor. There's been a bit more of a trend developing of goals kicked from quick rebounds, with more teams looking to add run-and-carry to maximise the effect of a quick turnover and I would say we have more of this on every line than the Crows do.

Def: Stevenson, Pittard, O'Shea v Jaensch and Otten
Mids: Ebert, Boak, Broady, Hartlett v Danger, Sloane, Mackay, Vince
Fwd: Wingard, Neade, Monfries, Mitchell v Douglas, Wright

In terms of the bookends, I'd say Walker and Talia just outmatch Schulz and Carlile, and obviously in the ruck the Crows have clear dominance with Jacobs v Lobbe/Redden/Renouf. But it will be interesting to see what you guys do with Westy. Normally a showdown specialist, and given his current form he could be the difference.

Easy to make it look unbalanced when you leave out Reilly down back and Thommo in the guts. Wright is also a midfielder.

The loss of Dean Bailey could be a big factor for them too .When big moves are required in the heat of battle I think our coaches box has it all over theirs.
seriously mate what makes you say this? Hinkley has coached two games for two easy wins under little 'heat' where as sando has coached in big close finals.

Disagree. All players have a clean slate under Hinkley. Stewart booted 4.1 in the SANFL on the weekend so he does have form. Plus the Burgess factor must be accounted for.

Lobbe or Redden's form is not that magnificent that they are an automatic selection yet.

With Bailey at his side. I'll back Hinkley, Richardson and co. over Sanderson, Bickley and co. thanks. But that's just me. If you don't like it feel free to whinge about it on the Adelaide board.

It's disrespectful that they even think that they can play that little kid Neade against us.
Showdowns are for men
Paraphrasing but it's on their board

I completely disagree with the lack of respect for Scott Thompson in this thread and hope our coaching panel isn't as naive. The guy is a ball magnet and will cut us up if we leave him unchecked. The notion that turning 30 suddenly makes you a plodder is laughable. Come on guys, we all hate the Crows but we should at least try to look at the game as objectively as we can.

I predict Van Berlo will go to Hartlett and given the number a spud like Rhys Palmer did on him I unfortunately see Hartlett having a minimal impact. Wright will most likely go to Boak which will mean guys like Ebert, Cornes and Wines will have to pick up the slack around the clearances if Wright keeps Boak quiet. Cassisi could also be really handy in tight if the coaches decide to bring him in.

Our wildcards will be our trio of Pittard, Stevenson and Heath coming out of defence and of course, Westhoff. The Crows really have no defensive matchups for any of those players.

What I am most interested in seeing is how our new found forward press holds up against a decent team. Both Melbourne and GWS had the ball stuck in their defensive 50 for extended periods of time. If the Crows can't break it down we will win in a canter.

You forgot our midfield wildcard of Broadbent. He is overdue for a big one.

This

Completely agree regarding Thompson. I can see why they're having a giggle at us on the crows board.

He is still they're most consistent and probably best player. Dangerfield is of course more damaging.

I can see van berlo shutting hartlett out if he goes to him. But that said, I don't see him having two quiet games in a row. And I wouldn't say vb is an elite tagger

Boak is much fitter now and looks to work a lot harder. Wright will struggle to keep him quiet

I wouldn't be opposed to bringing in another key forward so they will be forced to put Andy otten on Westhoff again :D seriously, they do that match up every showdown and they wonder why Westhoff always does well against them

Thompson has torn us up numerous times. Last year he was a top 10 midfielder in the competition. Possibly top 5. Our coaching staff wont be so swift to overlook his influence.

I think Adelaide have too many options. THeir midfield is better. Their forward line is slightly better. Their defence just as dour as ours. Their ruck significantly better. I think it will be a fantastic effort for us to win.
