Preview Preview and Changes Vs Adelaide

Hoping tex brings his goal kicking boots after last weeks dismal efforts. Midfield match ups will be pretty intersting, Hartlett & Ebert vs Danger & Sloane (Young Guns). The Hoff was really impressive last week, not sure who will take him with his versatility. Should be a top match, ports in the better current form I will admit. Gonna be a cracker of a match, every1 seems to be backing you guys for this 1. Good to see SA has 2 top quality teams

I'm confident that if our midfield doesn't get shut down and we can get the ball into our forward 50 enough times, our forward line will take care of the crows defense.

This is a test for us definitely. But not as big a test as the crows supporters think it is.

More worried about north in a few weeks tbh
The crows fans say we haven't yet beaten anyone of note and that is true but if we win on Sunday I would say we still haven't yet beaten anyone of note.

The real tests will come in the following weeks against Gold Coast, West Coast and North Melbourne.

When the draw is analysed at the start of the year isn't a measure of its toughness how many top 8, top 4 sides you play? To say beating us means you haven't beaten anyone of note and the greater test is playing Gold Coast is ridiculous. You need to remove your Crows hatred because that's just silly.

yes we had a easier draw than everybody expect North Melbourne but you take away the extra game against Gc and GWS we still won 15 games.

most crows fans are fully aware that we still have a bit of work to do before we can complete with the likes of collingwood, hawthorn, geelong (away) and west coast (away) head to head for a full game.

Unless you guys bring in some great free agent talent then I don't think you will get there. The kirt tippit drama will bite hard in a few years. Think about it, port have topped up with wingard, ebert, wines, clurey, neade, hombsche sammy c, heath, stevenson, monfries, mitchell and shaw over past 2 years. And will get another top 10 and top 20 pick again this year. In that same time you guys have brought in crouch and jacobs but lost tippitt (and others not worth mentioning). Sure you guys were ahead if us to start with, but take out Thompson from your side over next few years, and its gonna hurt.

This year, maybe next is your window. You should be winning comfortably on the weekend. If not I'd be concerned!

Gold Coast should rise sharply pretty soon, I think it's already begun. But in saying that, to say crows are nobody is obviously said in jest

I would definitely put you guys comfortably ahead of Gold Coast and even west coast (don't really rate them that highly with how they're playing at the moment and injuries etc)

But the way you guys are playing at the moment is far from convincing. You are a shadow of last years side. If we win, we still would have a lot to prove to be considered a genuine top 8 chance

Yes you havent beaten a bigger team yet but u guys have played some pretty impressive footy, i will hand u guys that 1. As a port fan ur gona disagree with me cause the whole showdown banter thing, but we beat every team in the top8 last season (including sydney in sydney) apart from the pies & hawks & still malthouse & tim watson said we werent a finals team, so u wil get it all year from all round the country. still this year we have no respect wen we got 1 straight kick from making the gf. Just the way it is, unfortunately we havent played footy to back up last season. U guys have been really impressive & pretty excted for sundays showdown. Will come down to a midfield battle with both forward lines looking dangerous

Spot on mate, u guys are playing impressive footy. As much as i love the crows, I am PUMPED to see to both SA clubs looking competative

I agree and fair post. But if you beat us you're confidence will be sky high and you will be on a fair roll.

There comes a time in each teams development where it announces to the world that it has arrived. That it will no longer be pushed around and trodden into the dirt, not through lack of skill, but through application and self belief.

Last year, a thread was created by Tribey (I believe) that attached this self-realization to the Collingwood game at the MCG. And while the merits of that thread were valid, I believe that the timing of it was erroneous. Not because Collingwood wasn't hurting and ready for the taking, but because the team wasn't ready. The players didn't believe they could win, because the coaches didn't believe they could win, and set up accordingly (the O'Brien debacle).

Well, this game is a chance for the team to announce to the AFL that it deserves to be placed in the same sentence as a Richmond. If you read the main board, there is a bit of support for us from neutrals, and the majority of people want to see just where we are at.

It's time to show them.

That's why I believe were not just going to win, but win by more than 3 goals. My reasoning is simple - Adelaide, coming off two hard games in the rain, one of them being in Brisbane...heavy legs that will be exposed by speed in our forward line in the last quarter. If we're going to win, we are going to win by a fair margin. If we lose, then we chalk this year down as a development year and join the ranks of GWS and Gold Coast in posting honorable losses with some record defeats along the way.

Let's see what this team wants to be this season and beyond.

Exactly, Jenkins will cover tippetts spot but no draft is gona b a killer & the worst bit is there s no free agents that wud come to SA so hmmmm. Just gotta battle thru. Ur recruiters have done a good job with wines & wingard. Dnt think Scotty Thompson wil be a huge loss in a couple years, crouch shoud be coming through by then

There's more to burning young players out than just being crunched, the biggest issue is core strength and fitness.
Youngsters generally do not have the core strength nor the fitness required to run out 22 games at the intensity and pace of an AFL game.

Agree... rest him during the real wet months on the heavier grounds like Skilled Stadium, Blundstone Arena or Skoda. Whilst the weather is dry, the grounds are firm and he is running on air let him run.... run Forrest run. :p

Anyways, enough of this lingo of comparing the two teams recruiting. Back to the showdown coming up. Whats te chances of Crouch & Wines going head2head?

We've had two hard games in the rain but with a weeks break and we ran over Brisbane in the last. But your speed is a worry.

The Western Bulldogs steamrolled Brisbane. I don't think using them as a barometer is wise. We certainly aren't taking much from beating Melbourne and GWS.

I meant more that we had a weeks break between games and we ran out the game well. I'm not big noting the win, as I've said we aren't flying at the moment.

This season is giving off a strong 2010 vibe for the Crows. Media expectations have gone to their head again and their workrate and intensity so far this year has been nowhere near up to last year's standard, and it's showed in their results. Maybe a Showdown will be what it takes to kick them back into gear. Obviously I hope that it won't be.

We've also seem different priorities in our last two preseasons though. Last year Sando basically played full strength from game 1 of the NAB. This year he eased them into it but it's hard to just flick the switch, generally we have a good NAB we start the year well. I believe if we do win our season will definitely kick into gear, obviously I hope that happens ;)

Toatally agree & as a crows fan, we can only hope haha.

I would make 1 change and bring in another clearance player for O'Shea.
From the SANFL reports it sounds like that would be Moore coming in if that is the area they are looking to strengthen. That said I can't help but feel Cassisi will be chosen out of respect ahead of Moore, even though that sounds remarkably like a Gold pass.....

I don't hate the crows (who by the way wouldn't exist without Port), I just think they're overrated.

If you can't handle that, you need to remove yourself from this board.

I think the Crows will win - Burgess has done wonders, but it will take more than one pre-season to undo the disaster that was Falloon. Melbourne and GWS aren't experienced hardened sides, so I can see our guys having some issues vs. the Crows.

That said Adelaide had an extra weeks break on Brisbane and took until the last quarter to take advantage of that edge they had over Brisbane. This week it's Adelaide off a trip away, with heavy legs versus off the same break having played on a fast ground. It'd be a novelty if we are the ones running over a side in the last quarter. o_O
