Universal Love Princes Park Update

  • Club could provide express buses from various locations. This is done in Adelaide.
  • You can hire screens for the few matches a year that a big screen would be required. Cricket used to do this in Adelaide and other places, and Im almost certain the AFL does this in the NT and Cairns.
  • Capacity doesnt have to be that great, you simply have two categories of members - Princes Park and Regular (see Geelong)

  • Its actually law that Princes Park cant have lights I believe.

  • If we can play games at Marrara, Trager Park, Cairns, Bellerive and York Park, then we can play games at Princes Park, which even now has a greater capacity that all of those.

After looking at Steven Trigg's disastrous deal he arranged for the Crows at Adelaide Oval... I wouldn't hold my breath.

Their legal team are still currently trying to overturn some of the conditions that he signed off on.
Port are in the same boat. Both teams were rushed into the deal.

They don't become rich by handing money out.

Unless they are provided a concrete model that guarantees success, they wouldn't back it.
Like I said, beneficial deal for everyone will be needed.

*Came on this board to check the opinions of Trigg and came across this thread*

Really enjoyed going to Princes Park when there were games there, always thought it had a really nice feel to it.

Always check out the pre season games to see if any are listed there but there hasn't been since around 2011/2012 in which I managed to get to two games the last time there was footy there. Also love the wooden styled seats more then the plastic ones but I'm guessing they'd have aged even more since the last time I was there.

Would be nice to see it up and running again, would be good when you've got interstate clubs coming over such as GWS, Brisbane, Freo etc that are unlikely to draw big crowd numbers where this would work perfectly.

That being said, looks like a bit of work needs to be done and whether the club want to invest in something like that which doesn't have much public transport near it is probably unlikely.

Still hold hope that we'll see footy return to there one day!

You could develop under ground parking to be used by the uni and hospital during the week but the rest of the roads wouldn't handle it.

Could get north Melbourne on board as they are our neighbours and would relish in a smaller ground.

All a pipe dream though sadly. I think we need to move away from the idea of bringing footy back and preserve it with our history make it a place to be proud of and when new recruits etc walk in the gravity of the place an excellence expected from the players that walk in.

It should be a statement of our club and in a way right now it is.

A once great ground that is suffering and really needs to take care of itself and the smaller details before it's too late.

no i used that as an example only. If everyone says its not possible then yeah i agree it will never happen, if the mindset changers just a little things and solutions are suddenly found. Keep the faith
With so much invested in etihad stadium the all won't turn away from it and make itself lose money.

It would also involve knocking down and rebuilding out new facilities. I wish there was a way but there just isn't.

If the local council don't want it, the AFL don't want it, it won't happen.

If we could get north of board though and use that money they wanted to put into Ballarat that would help.

'hey Jimmy, why not take all that organisation and money you where chasing for Ballarat and give it to us?'

happy dude that sounds extremely defeatis to me, remember the old saying if there is a will there is a way. Maybe new president will think of something, afterall he is a business man.

300mil isn't outside the realm of possibility here.

Last year the AFL made a record 446mil.

In an 18 club comp they won't give nearly 75% of that to us to develop a stadium they don't need.

We won't make a spare 300mil for a long long time. Plus we just ripped out a stand for new facilities. Will we just write all that effort off as a loss? We also asked for donations for this.

Local council already have laws in place preventing lights for night games so even if it did happen they won't be night games.

When was the last time you had a walk around PP? I was there a week or so ago and even I was amazed at the condition of everything. The building just isn't up to scratch and without proper care will need to come down soon.

A quick google search shows many articles about the AFL profit last year and Adelaide oval came in at 610mil for a similar sized stadium

so put 2 and 2 over an x amount of years blah blah, look something could happen, something meaningful and better for carlton. home games at eddie had (a contract) are meaningless
And when I stand up Disney land could fall out my butt next time I stand up.

yep go on being like that- negativedude. Dux for you!
If there was a chance I'd be in full support but even if the AFL pledged 1 million a year that's still at least 300 years (not taking into account inflation etc) before we have the funds. Times change sadly our princes Park days are but a fond memory.

why does it have to be soley afl contribution. geelong were pretty smart , saints are being smart, are us carlton supporters just plain dumb? time to think outside of square.

Geelong had massive support from the local council ours wanted us out.

The state government helped a lot too. They wouldn't see the benefits with another stadium so close to etihad and the mcg what would they get out of it.

The money would either come from us solely or the AFL.

There are a lot more obstacles than just money that need to be taken into consideration. I don't think happydude is being unnecessarily negative, he's just being realistic.
