I just saw on TV that she passed away, maybe it is old news everywhere except here in Perth, anyway I am not a royalist, but I did like her, same as Princess Anne, threw off the shackles of Royalty & did what they wanted.

good riddance to the royal cow i say. I only wish it was the Queen, Prince Charles, Willie & Harry, Queen mum, Fergie & her brats, and all the rest as well.

2 down, TONS to go

I have little time for the whole idea of Royalty, yet I have no envy for them whatsoever and, in fact, I feel a kind of pity for them. For although a life of riches does seem superficially appealing, the thought of having my every movement under constant public scrutiny and being expected to fulfill a certain "role" throughout one's life would not, in any measure, be worth whatever financial reward the Royal family receives.

And as we argue that the whole institution of Royalty is flawed, because it is a royal life by birthright, remember too that these people had no say at all whether they wished to be born into Royalty or not.

As I had no choice in being born the son of a Mordialloc greenkeeper, Margaret had no say in being born the daughter of the King of England. And I can tell you now that I would not have swapped lives with her for a minute.

So please, a little bit of decorum, decency and respect. Here is a woman who has led a rather troubled life, and in her last few years was wracked by some horiffic health problems.

To state "good riddance to the cow" is the very height of immaturity, ignorance, insensitivity and just plain callousness. She was a 71 year old woman who did no one any harm. Royal or not she deserves respect.

Thousands of people die every day. They all deserve respect, but only people of 'authority and status' are given the repsect that you talk of, therefore I don't believe it's callous to point this out in a fashion, which although childish, is getting a point across.

Well I only hope that when Osama Bin Laden is dead you dont say the same thing. Cause that ****ing ***T deserves to die with no respect

Please, are you trying to somehow compare Princess Margaret with Osama bin Laden? If you are then I am dumbfounded and if you are not then I have no idea how to reply to such a bizarre post.

Sure, MILLIONS of people die each day and the great majority deserve our respect and, in a round-about way, get it. For example, if an old peasant lady died tonight in a remote village in Pakistan then no, it would not make the papers - not in Melbourne, anyway. However I am sure that if we were made aware of such a death then we would hope her family were okay, her death was a painless one and that she was pleased with the life she lived. I doubt whether many of us would resort to calling her a cow and say "good riddance" at such news.

For the media can only report the obituaries of so many and naturally they will be of those in the public eye.

I mean Ted Whitten was given a funeral paid for by the state of Victoria and I have no problem with that, yet all he did during his life (to be in the public eye) was to have some talent at booting a footy. I bet that cost a fortune to bury him.

It has nothing to do with comparing these two people as they are definetly not a like and we all know that!
Why should we all have to mourn her death?
Its only the royalist that give a toss, where as I dont.
Sure they deserve respect but we dont need to be reminded either that we have to.

END OF MY STORY!

Why should we all have to mourn her death?

At no point did I say to mourn her death...I simply said that it was a bit mean to say "good riddance to the cow".

It was hardly as if I put on the black veil and broke down blubbering in front of the monitor.

Its only the royalist that give a toss, where as I dont.

Yet you gave a toss when Diana died? ("It was so tragic when Dianna died")

Oddness abounds.

Yes with Dianna it was different story as she was in the public eye so much, and I felt sorry for her kids that werent allowed to mourn the death over there mother.

Cheeky

Did you read my original post, I am not a royalist, I want Australia to be rid of the royal family, but I did feel for Margaret, she was the sister of the "Queen" and as such, had her life under a microscope because of it, she had no say in the matter.

I am a republican, but I dont wish death upon anyone. Yes, we would like to be rid of Mother England's ties, but we are stuck with it for now.

She died, may she rest in peace, but I wish that for anyone who dies...Royalty or not.....

There is no status in death......

Oh no. Margaret died. Lets all bow our heads in a minutes silence. I shall be glued to the television watching the funeral. This is the saddest moment of my life.

If you cant tell by now, i really couldnt give a rats...

It's (almost) always sad to hear of someone's passing, even a Royal. My mother was named after Princess Margaret, so for that reason alone, may she rest in peace.

I agree with Santos.....bye ! Millions die everyday and most do more with their life than her. So I hope her family are well and all that but even the fact that it gets a run in the paper sickens me somewhat.

Diana ????? One of the greatest disappointments in all that was Mother Theressa (sp ?) died at the same time. The world mourned for Diana Mother T hardly got a mention.

One woman gave what she had ample of (time and money) for good causes. The other gave what she had least (time and effort)....I know which one I think is more deserving of praise.

Every day people die all over the world. Many live "normal" lives. Many make a difference for others....even if this is volunteering at a nursing home or something. These people are our heros. Diana and co. are born (or marry or both) into a life of oppulance where tossing a few grand over to some "misfortunates" is no big deal.

Satay Mat

Although I respect the fact that Margaret is dead, and God bless her soul, she is part of an institution that I don't give a **** about. The fact it was front page material, here in Melbourne, really pisses me off. And, following what Satay Mat has said, I am very disappointed that Mother Terressa's death was overshadowed with that of Diana. Admittedly, Di gave alot to the less fortunate, but so did Mother Terrasa, yet she had nothing. The royal family are a bunh of dysfunctional aristrocrats that i have very little time for, and I hope that someday this country sees the light and votes in favour of a republic. I can't believe a group of people on the other side of the world are effectively our rulers.....

I'm afraid I don't share your opinion. I don't necessarily agree that the English Monarch should be Australia's Head of State, but I would be loathe for Australia to dispense with the system of a constitutional monarchy. In my view a Constitutional Monarchy is the best system of government in the world. Denmark, Belgium, the Netherlands, Norway and Sweden are all peaceful, stable countries, with 'home-grown', low key, low maintenance constitutional monarchies and it's their example I personally would like Australia to follow in the future.
