Thanks. You would think that they would make them compatible seeing as though...(from what I can see)...they are fairly identical.

But then you have to understand that they are always after more money!
 
The Dual Shock 2 (PS2) controllers have analogue capability. (it's very dodgy though)

eg. If you're using X button as your accelerator (say you're playing GT3), you can press it down a little bit as you're going around a corner, and then press it down hard to fully accelerate out of the corner. Compared to the PS1 where it was either "on" or "off."

So yes - they are different.

As far as i know, PS1 controllers will work on a PS2, but PS2 games that support the analogue features of the Dual Shock 2 may not work with a PS1 controller. (or maybe they do minus the analogue capability - i haven't tried)
