PS2, X-Box, Gamecube?

Catman,

If you like sports games, and want to play DVD's on your machine, I'd go with the PS2. Mind you, the GameCube looks good as well with their games but I wouldn't bother with the X-Box as their games range is very ordinary!!

Cheers!!

With the DVD, which console has the better DVD player?
PS2 or X-Box?

X-Box by a country mile.
Not to mention X-Box has the best game of all the platforms, halo and has a very impressive "yet to be realised" list.

The PS2 is older and IMO, it shows.

GameCube and XBox would both be great, but personally I am going to get a GameCube ($298!) because I already have a DVD Player.

If you want a DVD Player as well then get an XBox though.

Keep in mind to play DVD's on an X-Box you have to fork out extra $$$$ for a DVD controller while a PS2 can play DVD's straight out of the box

The PS2 will drop in price soon to under $400 so rumours say

Putting one or the other (meaning XBox or PSX2) on lay away either tomorrow or Monday. Still having trouble deciding. Had a look at a few magazines today and a lot of games on the XBox had really bad reviews which is disappointing.

Gav...i cant remember if 2K2 is coming to PSX2 or XBox...? That could sway my decision as i couldnt imagine not buying 2K3 when its released. Live 2002 got 2 out of 10 for PS2 in the mag i was reading today....there really is only one BBall Sim!

Also another swaying decision could be Pro Evolution Soccer! Really want this game but its only on the PS2?? Decisions decisions...

Ah ok.......the story is (i think):

The bad news - the 2k2 games will NOT be released in Australia on ANY platforms.

The good news - The 2k3 games will be released in Australia on ALL platforms. :D

Don't take it as gospel though (yet) but i'm pretty sure that's what's happening.

Also, E3 (Electronic Entertainment Expo - the biggest game expo in the world) is on at the moment in Los Angeles.

I'd wait until after this weekend as this is when all the developers bring out their big surprises. :)

I'll probably go nuts over the weekend and post links here (if i get a chance) to all the new cool stuff to keep people (including myself) up to date.

Also another swaying decision could be Pro Evolution Soccer! Really want this game but its only on the PS2?? Decisions decisions...

Pro Evolution 2 is out in Japan (it's called Winning Eleven 6 there) and it is apparently clearly better than PE1. (i can't wait for the Euro release!!!!!!!!!)

I still don't know if Konami are releasing it to any other consoles though.

Maybe E3 will tell us......... :)

Jesus mate....gimme a heart attack why dont ya :D I dont care if the 2K2 series arent brought out because i have 2K2 on my DC. So i will just play that until K3 is released. If you right and it will be coming to all platforms then i will likely go with the PS2.

Is Pro ES out in australia? I think it right, did you import or just buy it? And is PES2 coming out in australia and if so when!

Pro Evolution is out in Australia. It was pretty much impossible to find for a while, but i know that most Aus retailers got a new shipment of it a few weeks ago.

Also, i screwed up with E3 - it's actually on this WEEK. (and not the weekend just gone as i originally thought. I'm SURE it always used to be Thursday-Sunday. Oh well.)

Either way, i'll be posting stuff that's worthy of a mention. Should be a few big suprises.

What's the bet Sega steal the show. ;)

I like the PS2.. it may be older but i think its got the value for the money.. Like it costs the most and all but you can burn and theres a dvd thingy majigy and you will be able to if you cant, go on the internet

It will have the most games out for sure.!!!

ITS MADE BY SONY

But I'm not sure which is the best one.

Can anyone give me some advice as to which one I should buy and why?

Thanks.

Gamecube: I own the Gamecube, IT has some great games such as Super smash brothers melee, Sonic, And Tony hawks

Playstation 2: Great games + can play old PS games on it

XBOX: Full Of Bull....Yeah you know what I mean

If you like N64 get Gamecube

If you like PS get PS2

If you like Atari games by XBOX

Micro$oft products always have a long 'Yet to be Realised' list. I'll believe it when I see it. *cough - vapourware*

Why would a developer go exclusive on X-Box with 3 or 4 million units out there, while PS2 has 30 million consoles in the market?

Anything you can get on X-Box you can get on PS2, Gamecube or Atari 2600.

Playstation 2 drops $100 to $399

From today's Advertiser.........Sony's still killing them in sales......

Lasers locked on the game galaxy
BY SEAN FEWSTER 15jun02

THE four giants of computer game systems are locked in a ferocious battle for buyers which rivals the antics of their animated gun-toting heroes and hideous demons.

While games for personal computers maintain a strong grip on the market, Sony will today land what it hopes could be a killer blow to the other console formats. The price of the already popular PlayStation 2 will be dropped from $499 to $399, bringing it into a similar price bracket as its competitors, Microsoft's Xbox and Nintendo's GameCube.

Figures compiled by IT analysts Inform show PC games accounted for 39 per cent of Australia's $319 million video game market between June, 2001, and May this year. More than $99 million worth of titles such as Freedom Force, Deus Ex and The Sims were bought by gamers at an average price of $50.

Sony took second place, with the 18-month-old PlayStation 2 holding 23 per cent of the market.

PlayStation One, released in 1996, accounted for 15 per cent of the market, the same as the brand new Microsoft Xbox and Nintendo GameCube combined.

Inform's game market analyst, Phil Burnham, said the PC's dominance was not surprising.

"Most young families, and even people starting out, have a computer," he said.

"When you think of that built-in audience, it's a great reason for a games company to write programs for a PC."

He said more than $220 million worth of PlayStation 2, GameCube and Xbox games were sold between June 2001 and May this year.

Each game retails for between $85 and $95 but Sony discounts its most popular games to $49.95 after six months of sales.

"The PlayStation has been around a long time and that's allowed it to build up a nice big consumer base," Mr Burnham said.

"But the main reason why it still did wellwas because, even though the console was more expensive than the newer machines, the cost of ownership is less: You could pick up older and cheaper games, rather than having to buy titles at each $95."

The Xbox was released to massive hype in March, but initial sales of 10,000 units declined sharply in the following weeks.

A price cut in April arrested the decline for a short time but sales soon dropped off again. The GameCube sold almost 12,000 units when it debuted last month, but sales have dropped since.

"Sony and Nintendo seem to have more brand loyalty, unlike Microsoft," Mr Burnham said.

He said features such as built-in DVD players and the ability to play games over the Internet were not enough. The future market would depend on the quality and quantity of their games.

Mr Burnham said the PC market would continue to grow in the meantime.

Sony Computer Entertainment's managing director, Michael Ephraim, said the days of PC dominance were "numbered".

"If you combine the figures for PS 2 and PS One, we hold 38 per cent of the market, just behind PC games," he said.

"If you look at the cycles of the industry over the last 15 years, the PC market only takes hold when the consoles are going through a transitional period to next-generation, higher-priced product.

"When the PlayStation One was at its peak, PCs were in the doldrums. Now PCs have peaked and consoles are in the trough. I can guarantee that by next year, you will see that trend reversed as consoles that deliver state-of-the-art technology come down in price."

Mr Ephraim said the $100 price drop for PlayStation 2 was part of the company's strategy, not the state of the market.

"This price drop, together with our huge library of games, range of `exclusive to PS 2' games and discounted titles, will mean there's absolutely no choice for consumers except to choose the PS 2 for the best value," he said.

How many times does this have to be explained. It is aimed at ALL age groups.

-Star Wars Rogue Leader
-Tony Hawk
-Resident Evil
-Die Hard
-Metroid Prime
-Turok
-WWF
-Sports games of all shapes and sizes
-more available that i missed and more coming

The GameCube is a cheaper alternative to the Xbox and PS2. Simple as that.

If you have no brains, post something like this!

That can also be applied to your above post.

I have halo and played it till my fingers bled.
I got Dead or Alive 3 and Inside Drive and played them till my fingers bled.

What crap is this? The Gamecube is not just a kiddies system as you claim. I own one and are very impressed thus far with it.
In my opinion it is better at the moment then the X-box games wise. Not necessarily a better machine overall though, but it still holds it's own at the moment.
I can at least give an un-biased opinion on all systems as I've also owned a PS2 and currently own an X-box as well.

But it really gets my goat when people make comments like the Gamecube is a kiddie system. So I guess I'm classified as a kid?

CaterS, add another game to that list in Wave Race.:)

Its hard to comment at the moment re: X-Box vs GC. As it stands, the releases (so far) for GC are more appealing than those for X-Box. However, we will have a better idea about the relative streangths and weaknesses of both systems as more games are released. I believe that X-Box's furture line-up is more impressive than that of the GC, but that is my opinion.
