She was grabbed from behind by an unknown assailant at Flinders St station - a slap was the least she should have done he's lucky he didn't cop a kick to the nads. If this happened to my daughter I'd be down there demanding to speak to the jackboot responsible so he could answer to someone his own age and size. Utter scumbag, as are his mates that were blocking her friends from going to see if she was OK while the **** sat on top of her after spear tackling her.

The officer did nothing wrong. Under the circumstance and from what my understanding is, together with what I have seen on public transport in similar scenarios, I don't see an alternate. He tried talking to the girls and she fled. What they are meant to let her get away because she is 15?

All that you are call the PSO a pig for doing his job? If he did anything wrong and I mean ANYTHING wrong an officially apology would have been sent out. This is always done to cover their behind legally. The fact that nothing happened should be proof enough. Tell me how would you have dealt with the situation had you of been the PSO officer?

She didn't have a ticket, she slapped an officer. The PSO possibly went over the top but she copped the consequences of a couple of very poor decisions. Lack of respect for some authority led to the situation as it is now.

Not defending passengers actions. AO actions were far worse though - I can't see how that isn't an assault upon the lass (from silent vid perspective). Certainly not proportionate. AO is an adult and also held to higher standards.

What she did was wrong but the response from an adult in a position of authority who should know better is so disproportionate to the supposed "crime" or rather infringement of not buying a $2-$3 train ticket that it is absolutely unthinkable that anyone could defend it.

I don't condone the heavy handiness of the PSO, however the incident escalated because of the way it began. A smartarse kid, no Myki, slaps someone trying to do the job they are paid to do. Most kids would just accept the fine or whatever it was that was the minor punishment.
I copped a hiding from the cops when I was 18 for being D & D and a smartarse after being thrown in the lockup overnight to sober up. I didn't like it but learnt to lose the battle to win the war.

Yeah they'll probably always have them on hand just by the fact they are always in their wallet, but they're rarely going to head back home if they forgot their concession card.

How about this scenario, you're young one forgets her concession card, only realises when she sees some PSO's, decides to quick walk it out of there, and ends up in a similar situation. You'll be surprised at how easily these things can escalate even to the most innocent of kids when you have ADULTS who aren't capable of showing self control themselves. There are very few times when an Adult should be spear tackling a young teen - A government authorised male employee doing so to a 15 year old female for a slap in the face is definitely not one of them.

As adults, and in particular as adults put in a position of authority, it really is our responsibility to set the example. if anyone believes the over-reactionary nature of so many incidents is the example we want to set well that just speaks volumes for them.

Not according to the Transport Act and its Regs. In breach = infringement.

Don't misunderstand my point, I reckon the AO did the right thing if he/she believed your daughter was genuine.

But it took the officers use of their personal discretion to override the shitty way the system is setup ie: Your daughter is guilty of an infringement.

Plenty of people get fines for this exact reason every day.
