Gets beaten easily and fairly in the contest and complains for a ridiculous non-free kick. This is the entitlement of being kissed on a d@#k every week by the umps. He is actually dumbfounded.

Bad sign. There were a lot of Collingwood players, in the GWS game, appealing for non-existent frees, too.

How did we win by only 13 points against that rabble ?

Hope there’s a review conducted during the week
umps stopped it to blowing out to 40

Those 2 deliberate out of bounds not called in the last qtr was open corruption
o gorman kept plucking out shots infront of goal and soft frees in the centre in the last quarter trying to turn the game

Being a tigers supporter and over 50 I am in foreign territory.

Bit like the 2017 premiership, surreal..

I mean we have passed recent premiership victories and we went to the draft. and we just beat Carlton round one with the help from some highly rated kids. I mean does it get better than that???

My brother supports Carlton and he has not replied to me.

Massive pats on the back for those deciding to go to the draft last year!!!!

does not get much sweeter than this !!!! gunna love watching these kids develop!!!!

in the 1980's there was a general downturn into a arduous hell before purgatory, this is so much better!!!!

if if we do not get a heap of wins this year it is still do much better and the kids and future looks so much brighter, I am happy inside

There were two major takeaways for me that I was hoping to see regardless of result.

First was our tackling. I can barely remember a Carlton player slipping a tackle. We’ve been a shocking tackling team for years, where I’m constantly yelling out : “just bloody tackle him!” I don’t recall once last night where a Carlton broke a tackle with any ease at all. Huge tick.

The second was out kick outs. Not once did we kick short into the pocket, thus trapping ourselves in. This drove me crazy last year, whereby we did it every single kick out as teams happily gave us that short kick. We didn’t do it once last night. Another huge tick.

What a win! A few observations. There was a change in the game during the 2nd quarter. Up to that point, it looked a repeat of what has happened all too frequently in the last few years and that is Richmond struggling to score while the opposition scores easily in the first half. At one point I wondered where the second goal was coming from. I am enthused to have Caracella in the box, there were tactical changes made that had a profound effect on the match, don’t know exactly where they came from but wouldn’t surprise if that largely came from Blake. It might be our most significant off-field signing.

What was refreshing was the unselfishness of the team in looking for a player in a better position to kick a goal, no doubt that contributed to an accurate score line. I wonder whether the exit of Bolton, a notorious hog (but great highlight producer) has impacted and resulted in a more team-oriented playing style.

Thirdly, the umpiring still mystifies me, we’ve lost players like Pickett and still we rack up non-decisions and gratuitous free kicks to the opposition, will it ever end?

All in all though, one of our greatest comebacks ever, there aren’t many games where we’ve been losing by more than 41 points and still managed to win.
