correct me if I’m wrong but I heard Springwood lost to Yeronga last week ?
Was not the case as far as I was aware. Played 6x15 minute periods essentially and was a mix between senior and reserves in each period. Plus would’ve been at least 10 of the senior regulars if not more that did not play too.

If you had a look at the list there would have been about 4 out of the best 22 that actually played in that game. The Springwood Coach was ex Yeronga and obviously having a look at some young blokes that may or not play. Lots of the Springwood blokes would not been available at that time on a Friday night dut to work commitments as well. Would not read too much into that. They played a lot more blokes for three quarters previously against then the other three quarters was a lot of reserve grade players. At full strength I would think a better overall side than last season.

any games worth watching this weekend for a footy fix?
Actually will be quite an interesting weekend for games in my opinion. Aspley play hinterland and you’d have to imagine if hinterland get close let alone beat Aspley it’s gonna be a very long year for Aspley in this comp. Caloundra play Moreton Bay which should be interesting to see how far (if at all) behind Moreton are compared to this comp. Beenleigh Play Coorparoo which will be a good one to watch I’d imagine. Mayne were scheduled to play Springwood but it appears to be removed from the website fixtures so not sure what’s happened there.

Aspley beat Hinterland by about 4 goals in the seniors, and about 200 in the 2's

Appears they had some VFL players running round in the 2's game. curious as to why they would put them through the 2's?

Piss poor if they are sending blokes back from the VFL to play at this level, Aspley has always been about themselves

Missed the Mark there. Their players filtered through many leagues and divisions. They had their game cancelled through no fault of the own. We had one play with us today and happy to accommodate him nothing to do with trying to win because after all it was a practice match, but more so for him to get a run under his belt.
Had it been a comp game and I had to leave someone out I probably wouldn’t have but considering it was a practice match I was happy to give him a run

Who played for you?

I find it very interesting to think a Div 1 side finds it interesting to play a side in a different/lower Division as people have insinuated above .... yes great to have a hit out but surely it's a test for the lower Div and not theirs as such ?

Caloundra lost to Moreton Bay by 5 goals. Says more bout where MB are at then anything

Tend to agree. But I guess it is the call of the coaches, availability, locality etc. Seems to be the case in div 2 with many sides electing to play div 4/5 sides. Similarly, Caloundra playing MB. Although, Caloundra were on the wrong side of that result.

You play who you can get. Organising practice matches is a mare. You take the opportunity if you get a 6 Qtr a early or 2 4 qtrs later in the preseason. You don’t really get much of a choice.

Hard to find sides to play in your division when there is only 6 to choose from...

Really?? There is no reason why MB should not go up you would think..
Ordinarily I agree. And although it appears they are a mile ahead in their comp, them wanting to play Div 2 north holds the same logic as teams such as Park Ridge and Moorooka playing not playing in the div 2 south comp. Too much choice for clubs, more guidance should be provided by the powers that be.

Yeah not sure - if they are competing well against a side that is reported to be a very competitive div 1 side this year then that seems madness. Unless MB had some of those Aspley boys running around with them too?

I don’t get the thinking that you don’t want to play a side in the same comp.

Yeah I do - Maroochy played Caloundra last week - was good for both clubs, Noosa has played QAFL clubs in previous years - served them well too. it depends what you are trying to get out of the game but prac matches are tough to organise - sometimes you just take what you can get.

They lost Giles, and no one has a crystal ball about what each comp will be like. But as I said, the precedent has been set where sides can essentially pick their own comp, so hard if people choose to be angry at them. Although we were belted by them 2 weeks ago, It is nice I only need to drive 20 minutes up the road to watch us play opposed to travelling to ipswich.

We played 2 teams in our comp and used it as a practice match. Ran minutes into the legs of all our players. Practice match results don’t mean shit at the end of the day, to me it was getting Ks into our players

Fair enough - just think a lot to be gained by being in Div 1 in terms of attracting players. Esp when the facility is A1. And the comp above has 7 teams and you are playing ina comp with a zillion.
I agree with you that clubs seem to be allowed to pick own comp - thats not great leadership but maybe on a flipside HQ is sick and tired of clubs saying
" U caused this mess"....

Yeah I think they mean a bit - set up a style of play, get a decent look at players with ?? attached to them, create certainty about others. Plus match fitness.

Anyone know the result of the Beenleigh vs Coorparoo game? Saw Aspley only beat hinterland by a few goals. Moreton getting over Caloundra is an interesting one. Didn’t look like a full strength Caloundra team but still makes you think that Moreton should be in Div 1.
