What's the latest in this comp?

For such an even comp, this chat doesn't get used much.

Any major changes during the off-season?

I see Springwood has lost their coach and skipper.
Hinterland with mass exodus of players.

Are Mayne a shoe-in for 3-in-a-row?

It was so great they got rid of it after 3 seasons…
Yeah but sometimes you don't know what you have until its gone. Put the best div 2 sides from north and south (maybe only another 2-3 sides in total) together and make it a substantial div 1 comp of around 10..

Most of Div 1 now is north except Springwood and UQ. But you’d think the split wouldn’t be based on the Brisbane river anymore. Or else you’d have a very small north comp, especially if they want GC sides in the south comp. Wonder where the split would happen.

Then you’d have a standard Div 3 of maybe the bottom 3-4 of both Div 2 comps.

Mayne's comp to lose, you recon Bossey?

Hard to argue with you.
They've clearly been the best side for the last 2 seasons, and their key players are in the right age bracket to dominate local footy. No major outs either for them?

If you were able to bet id say Mayne would be odds on to win it.
However it's a new year and just maybe a couple might challenge.
As for the split happening next year it's about 2 years too late and must happen.
A div 1 comp with 7 teams while the other comps are stacked is a joke.

Smaller comp means smaller gaps in team strength, at least in the Div 1 comp atm.So teams get use to closer games and become more competitive. Which is great for those clubs involved.

But you look at Div 2 north with 5 extra teams and when your bottom 6 are competitive or less against Div 3 teams. How does the top 4 or so get challenged weekly? They don’t. So when you go Div 1 and every game is competitive. You struggle. Div 2 south is the same. The same top 4 since 2020 have won flags or close to. Robina, Tweed and Coomera were just making up the numbers.

Anyway. Let’s see how the year goes and what AFLQ actually do to support club growth on field.

Honestly, I'm struggling to understand what the "2027 Plan" entails.

My personal preference would be that Div 1 needs to be a 10-team competition, providing underlying structure for a 13-team (or less) QAFL comp. The remainder within Div 2 can be split geographically, if that's the direction wanted.
On that basis, assuming there are no relegations from the QAFL, then three clubs get promoted. Let's put aside who those three clubs are for now.
Maybe that is already what is planned (?).

Also, as raised by Gone Akers , let's look back at the previous Div 1 geographical delineation:
2014: North = 8 clubs South = 9 clubs
2015: North = 7 clubs South = 9 clubs
2016: North = 6 clubs South = 10 clubs
And following this experiment, guess what it was replaced with in 2017? QFA Div 1 - a ten-team competition!

So, my feelings once again: don't mess about with another 3-year experiment which is eventually abandoned. Get a 10-team comp happening as soon as possible (2027).
Hypothetically, if any club needs to step up to the QAFL in the future (which I can't see happening in the short-term), then that club will likely come from Div 1. The comp needs to be sufficient to prepare any promoted club with a comparable experience to what they will face in the higher grade.

I could be completely wrong though.....

No I think you are right Toucan on all counts and yes, 1 less QAFL side would be beneficial as well. Redcliffe seem like the obvious starter although Sandgate on doorstep and I feel Bond Uni and Burleigh coming in together provides a bit more GC flavour and Caloundra / Hinterland presence at the other end.

The last time it was a 10 team comp the fly in the ointment was the relative strength of Noosa and Maroochy and this made the trip north hell for a lot of clubs.

Mayne to UQ is 14km. Sandgate to Redcliffe is 17km. Granted, different population densities and the uni will always provide a steady stream of numbers. Be great to see a couple Goldy sides rejoin, maybe next year when (if?) petrol is back under 2 bucks though..

Looking forward to the comp, always very quiet on here. Few departures as far as I'm aware (Wischnat, Korewha, Kenneally et al) but reckon teamsheets tmrw will throw up some surprises as they always do.

Probably too simplistic a proposal and doesn’t factor in any ‘pillars’ etc but the below looks alright on paper? 2 year comp reviews/requests. If 10 teams is desired for Div 1 then only bring up 1 from each Div 2 comp, although Mt Gravatt probably aren’t going to move.

2027 Div 1
1 Bond Uni
2 Caloundra
3 Carrara
4 Hinterland
5 Kenmore
6 Mayne
7 Moreton Bay
8 Mt Gravatt
9 Redcliffe
10 Sandgate
11 Springwood
12 University

2027 Div 2 North
1 Alex Hills
2 Gympie
3 Jindalee
4 Kedron
5 Moorooka
6 Pine Rivers
7 Yeronga
8 Zillmere

2027 Div 2 South
1 Burleigh
2 Coolangatta
3 Coomera
4 Logan City
5 Pacific Pines
6 Robina
7 Tweed Coast
8 Wynnum

Not the worst proposal going about. That makes a lot of sense

Mayne have an excellent system and continue to excel.
If they had decent facilities the could quite easily play state league.
Round one results can be deceiving but I think it's playing out as expected.

Not sure what you consider decent facilities, Everton and Mayne have worked hard to get grounds that would meet most of the QAFL specs

I agree they are doing a great job with what you have but parking and viewing are very challenging.
The playing surface was not great last year.
If mayne were to find another oval that would be their own they would be out of there in a flash.

Why did Mayne leave their previous Ground? Everton did have very strong, Seniors in the late 80 s but all gone and only juniors ?

From what I can remember the bears came in and aflq did a restructure and omitted mayne.
The ongoing legal battle was expensive.
Made no sense as they had close to the best facilities as was shown by the amount of finals played there.
They also had the best nightclub on Sunday nights after footy.
They played out of Kedron for a few seasons but Kedron wouldn't give and said no to the idea of mayne taking over the lease.
Not sure when they landed at wolves.
But probably there for the long haul unless an existing ground or new
Facilities come available.
Not a lot of open usable space on the inner North.
