Hi, sorry for intruding. I was just wondering with Trengove out of the Port side, is it possible for Jay Schulz to plug the center half back position against North? I remembered Schulz used to play in defense at Tigerland so I came to get an idea of how good he was. Any opinions on how you guys think he'd go manning up Drew Petrie in relatively wet conditions?

He's a bit out of form, Jay, but he's still your best forward.

I'm not sure why you'd want to concede, regardless of how good (or bad) of a defender he is, like that.

Maybe Westhoff just has to play on a man...? ;)

Just for this week. North is going super tall, and its going to be wet.
One, if Carlile doesn't match up well on Petrie, we need a backup plan. Two, our midfielders and forwards kick enough goals to win games without him. Haha, this is just a random thought, probably won't happen though.

You'll be 6-0. :p

What the hell would we know about Schulz. We didn't think he was any good as a forward!

Bet a lot of the port fans would have 'the hack' Chaplin back now eh? :D

(sorry, couldn't help myself).

From memory, he might have actually been a bit more consistent/better as a defender (apart from a few 'breakout' games as a forward) when he was with us (though given how bad our defence was, probably doesn't say much either!)

Typical Of Richmond to continue to keep turning great junior talented fowards into hack defenders before trading/delisting them ................. How good would of Jay been in our foward lineup now

Lets hope the same doesnt happen to Griffiths,Astbury,Elton,O'Hanlon

He mainly played a loose role across the backline from what I remember. I'm sure he could play a KPD role if absolutely needed but he's definitely more valuable in the forward line.

Schulz improved x5 once he went to Port so your asking the wrong people.

He was lazy, selfish, loved a beer way to much and didn't work hard enough on the training track at Richmond and thats something that Schulz has openly admitted multiple times.

For about a month he played well as a chb, if i remember right he was badly ridden into ground in whats now an illegal tackle , got injured and that was it ...about the last shot he fired before being traded 18 months latter

Thats right, was a pin-the-arms-smash-the-head-into-the-turf tackle on the wing.
Looked pretty nasty even then, when it was common.
But having said that I do recall one or two incidents in Milburns career with a hint of fondness ;)

I remember Aaron Hamill doing it to Schulz in a game also and knocked him out cold. Hamill called for the trainers once he realised how much damage he'd done.

I don't remember the Milburn one.

Yeah, you're right johnno, I just read it was Hamill, and Schulz shoulder got crunched.
Milburn slammed Shane Edwards in '08 that incident prompted the AFL to look at the slam tackle.
