Hey guys,
well, we have beaten the kiwis in the 1st leg.
What the hell happens if they win the 2nd leg? Do they advance? Does the first leg count for jack if they win on Sunday?
Thanks guys...

OK, so the goals are added up over the two games. The overall result is used to decide the winner. So NZ must win by more than two goals to win "outright". If the Aussies lose by a goal, win, or draw, then the Aussies go through.

Things get a little complicated if, for example, the Kiwis win 3-1. Then the aggregate score is 3-3... but if that is the case, "away" goals count double, so the Kiwis would go through.

If the Kiwis win 2-0, then its 2-2 on aggregate, with two away goals each, and it goes to extra time, then penalties.

Hope that answers your question.

Cheers,
Sbagman.

Another soccer question.

Who does the 5th placed team in South America look like being at this stage?

Someone in the other thread mentioned Brazil as being a chance of finishing 5th.

I hope that was a joke!

It could well be Brazil, it's no joke, they aren't setting the world on fire at the moment and there's a lot of domestic problems and infighting with the Brazilian head soccer body. I think Brazil are running 4th at the moment, there's still about 5 or so games left in the CONMEBOL (South America) Confederation matches, I think. So there's still a few teams we could be playing. Off memory, it could be Ecuador, Uruguay, Paraguay, Brazil or Peru, I think one of them are the most likely suspects.

Jesus that turned out like a f*cking piece of sh*t. The fifth placed team will play off against Aus for a spot in the WC.

Anyway, I don't reckon it will be Brazil, more likely Uruguay or Colombia. We'd be in with a good shot against either of those two, particularly Uruguay, but it won't be like Oceania.... I hope the boys get some tough matches in preparation for the play-off....

Cheers,
Sbagman.

Cheers for the table, sbagman,

after looking at that it looks likely to be Colombia, Uruguay or Brazil at this stage though things could change.

IMO it will be Uruguay. They will certainly be no push over. They have players like Alvaro Recoba the highest paid player in the world from my beloved Inter. They also have Gustavo Poyet (Chelsea) Paolo Montero (Juventus) Fabian O'Neill (Juventus) and a few other great players that elude me for the time being.

Finger crossed! :)

No worries SydneyFan (though it didn't turn out!). I reckon with Brazil having the game in hand might just secure them 4th spot. I reckon if we play Brazil we're screwed in the away leg. 120,000 Brazilians at the Maracana might overwhelm us...

Yes, they won't be a pushover, but I fear Colombia more. Uruguay haven't done anything for quite some time now, their last World Cup was 1990... and I believe they've done f*ck all in the Copa America in that time too, though I could be wrong...

Inter eh? I'm a Perugia supporter (on accounts of living there) but I'm praying Reggina (Calabrians like me) account for those racist Veronese arseholes to avoid relegation.... anyone else follow Italian football?

At this stage we are only going to play two lead-up friendlies before the qualifiers, they are:

11.Nov.01 Australia vs France (Sydney)

and another one against Japan, although the date and venue isn't confirmed.

Yeah hopefully Reggina will get up. There is far to much racism in Serie A, Lazio being the absolute worst.

Perugia eh? We just took your captain! Marco Materrazi! You have gotta wonder about players that come to Inter. We are perenial under-achievers, always in turmoil....but we have lots of cash, i guess thats why they come.

Has an actual date for the 2 final qualifiers been set? Because I was thinking about going away on the 28th November - but I'm not going anywhere until the game has been played!

I heard the France game was 2 weeks before the World Cup Qualifiers, does this mean it'll be around late November??? I think it was 27th last time.

I'd prefer Uruguay, just because I think we have the best chance in the away leg. Paraguay and Colombia would both be played at high altitude - and Colombia would be fairly intimidating as it's very politcally unstable. Brazil - they'd better pull their finger out! I think I will cry if we have to play them - I mean how unlucky could we be :(

I amazed Chile have been so poor, thought they'd be a likely opponent.

Also, does anyone know who decides who gets the 2nd leg at home? Because i hope it's us!!!

The trouble with Inter is that their President just wants to buy success & expects it to happen overnight. If he actually got a good manager in & told him he had a couple of seasons to build a side they would probably dominate Italian football.
I mean to say sacking Lippi wasn't a clever move as you know that he would have created a great side given the time.

I saw the pitch invasion in the Roma/Parma game & it reminded me of the cricket over here when Paksitan play-the coach Cappello was going mad telling them all to get off the pitch.

It seems to me that Italian club football is in a slump compared with the other top European countries-I don't understand how Italian fans can put up with such negative football.Only the odd club play anything resembling an atacking game. It's their culture I suppose but over here in England people wouldn't go to watch that sort of stuff.

Who ever we play, it won't be a pushover,...

But first we have to get over NZ. They had a great 2nd half, and could have scored a number of times.

Just hope its not Brazil though.

The guys need some good hitouts as well to steel them up a bit!

Surely, when we do play say Columbia or whoever, do you all think Kewel and Viduka will be released? We'll certainly need their services.!!

Cheers.
