Hasnt arrived yet and we are getting well in to pre-season training.
I would think he would need to arrive very shortly if he was to be assessed and considered for a rookie spot before the RD

Has anyone heard anything recently ?

This bit worries me............

Quigley initially decided to turn his back on Aussie Rules about ten days ago and while Carlton did ask him to re-consider - with first-team manager Kevin Sheedy even getting involved - the case was finally closed over the weekend.

Did I miss something??

Kevin Sheedy is also the name of a well known gaelic Football coach over in Ireland.

Shields sounds impressive. :thumbsu:

Great work from the club to release a positive release this quickly.

Time curtails Irishman's ambitions with Blues

Icke said the Blues encouraged the Gaelic footballer to finish his apprenticeship because all that was on offer at Carlton was a trial, not a contract.

“We didn’t want to turn his life upside down on a whim and a prayer,” Icke said.

Quigley was an international rookie with the Brisbane Lions in 2006 and returned to Ireland after only a few months because of homesickness.

The Blues’ recent signing of Cork native Michael Shields also limited Quigley’s chances to be part of the senior list.

“Based on the fact that Michael Shields excelled and was able to pick up the game quicker than we had anticipated and the fact that Brendan had locked into his apprenticeship, which we had encouraged him to do, meant that we just didn’t have enough time,” Icke said.

However, Icke did not rule out Quigley joining the club in the future.

“We haven’t planned for it but anything’s possible. He won’t be too old next year, he’s only 21 and rookies need to be under 23,” he continued.

“A lot of things can change in six months or 12 months so I’m not going to speculate other than we’ll continue to watch Brendan’s progress and keep in contact with him.”

What we should do is find an Aussie with a footy background currently living in Ireland. We could pay him to do once a week skills sessions with Quigley, those who have (not) been paid $1600 for our first right of refusal, and anyone else we think might be up to playing AFL. What have we got to lose really?

I'll do it if they want to send me over there; I'm expensive though. Particularly since the person doing this job might be occasionally bombed, shot at, etc...

Maybe you could post some links to the reports of this type of violence in the Republic of Ireland? You sound like that nimrod on the yank quiz show who thought that Europe was actually a country and everybody spoke french.
