As a kid I remember thinking it was unbelievable that in 1997 and 1998 the same team won the flag, the same player won the Norm Smith and the same player won the Brownlow.
Nat Fyfe could have made the same thing happen this season as well.

Only Malcolm Blight, John Platten and Nathan Buckley have won both the Brownlow and the Magarey Medal.
As an aside, Buckley is the only player to have won both the Brownlow and the Magarey as well as both the Norm Smith and Jack Oatey Medals as well for best on ground in both GF’s.

In a very even 1997 season all of the 16 teams spent at least one week in the Top 8, but the last team to enter the 8 was minor premier St Kilda after Round 8. The Saints were on the bottom of the ladder after Round 4, and still second last after Round 6.

Not quite as bad, but round 1, 1991, Footscray led Pies at half time at Waverley by 25 points (60-35). Second half we kicked 2.4 to Pies 17.9, to lose by 70 - a 95-point turnaround in half a game. Last quarter was Pies 10-5 to Dogs 0-2. Avg age and avg games fairly even, Pies more finals experience at that stage.
