Prediction R11 Changes V Sydney

TIL - Sydney supporters actually believe they lost because of the umpiring in 2016. They were dominated in every stat.

Is this a case of mass Hysteria? Enough delusional people have been sooking for so long it seems their whole fan base believe it haha.

If anything we were hard done by through umpiring that day, but good teams find a way to win.
They've also infected other teams' supporters too. Keep spinning the same yarn often enough for long enough and it becomes the orthodoxy. No matter how wacky.

Back on topic, little confidence in English being able to run & negate Grundy around the ground. With Grundy getting first hands on the ball it will feed straight to their onballers.

They love to quote this delusional article from the classic AFL loving rag The Australian which mentions an alleged phone call (curiously never mentioned in any other media outlet) which shows a complete misunderstanding of how football works, see the bolded line. Long may their self-flagellation continue:

"The league were embarrassed to the point that then-acting AFL general manager of football operations Mark Evans rang Sydney chief executive Andrew Ireland on the Tuesday after the match to apologise for the umpires costing the Swans four goals. The winning margin blew out late to 22 points after the Bulldogs kicked the final two goals in time on of the final quarter."

The bold - rationality tells you that simply could not be factual.

Either Andrew Ireland is a moron, or the article misrepresents what was said on this apparent phone call. And in either circumstance, fans who think that this supposed "admission" is proof of a great injustice are equally irrational.

At least we get to keep talking about that wonderful day every time a Sydney supporter posts :)

At 33 years old , Rampe is still a very good player & hitting his old heights . He’s one of my favourite opposition players, I love a good intercept marker.

...
Same here.

He should have been a Bulldog but it looks like we blew it. Not sure how accurate this is - it's from Wikipedia:
He spent three seasons in the Victorian Football League (VFL) with Williamstown helping them win the inaugural Foxtel Cup and playing in the 2011 VFL Grand Final. He was twice invited to train with the Western Bulldogs in the preseason. The Bulldogs, however, snubbed him in the 2010 AFL Draft.[8] Feeling he had missed his chance to break into the AFL he returned to Sydney.[5] In 2012 he played for UNSW-Eastern Suburbs Bulldogs in the Sydney AFL and won the Phelan medal as the best player in the league for the season. His performance earned the notice of the Swans and as a Swans Academy product he was offered a spot on Sydney's rookie list in the 2012 AFL Draft.
Who was our recruiter/list manager in 2010? Clayton? Dalrymple?

We picked up some good late picks that year - Dickson, Dahlhaus (R) but could have done without Daniel Pearce and the enigmatic Matt Panos (R) if it meant getting Rampe.

20/20 hindsight is a wonderful thing isn't it?

The new political orthodoxy. It worked for Trump!

Swans still bitter about 2016 in their previews.

Funny how after all these years, they still think they were the best team on Grand Final Day and only lost because of the umpires. Ignoring the fact they got smashed in inside 50s by like 20, their forwards did nothing all day, their only good patch was late in the second quarter. And the fact they won the Free Kick count in the final quarter, yet we smashed them on the scoreboard (I thought free kicks meant they would have won the quarter right? right?). Or even if all the so missed calls were made, and correct calls kept, they still likely would have lost the FK count by a bit regardless.

I guess entitlement is a real thing when you finish on top and can't stand having lost to a 7th placed team. The flag was rightfully theirs to be given to them not earned. Lucky they were not playing the Giants or Cats in the final who are more efficient with their inside 50s, the game would have been over at half time.

Anyway, I still expect them to flog us this week. If the Dogs are to be serious about having to turn around, I expect nothing less than a close contest. Can accept another Geelong like game, but not another Essendon or Demons game. A win would be much better. The next two weeks will define our season. Hoping the short turn around and wet game doesn't leave us out of legs late. Swans currently the best team in the league, and its daylight between them and the next best. Cats, Power, Demons, Pies and Giants have all had flakey patches.

Gotta go harder next time Hanneberry.

Most swans fans have been totally sucked in by Longmire.

He shifted the blame away from his poor team selection and inability to cope with the Dogs tactically to the umpires.

He is some sort of messiah to a great many of them in their odd Sydney bubble.

Maybe Poulter gets a run after reading his VFL write up.

If that we're to happen, I guess Gallagher or Freijah might have their minutes managed

We can give them some lessons on how to bring a Messiah down to earth if they're interested.

It must be really hard to swallow the pill of being outplayed by 7th, when you’ve been the flag favourites all year.

The facts are we hold a 7-5 win/loss record against Sydney since Bevo has been our coach. That's a mighty effort considering the Swans hold a formidable overall record of 130-76-1 during that time. What's their excuse for only beating us 5/12 times?

Also, what's their excuse for having a dismal finals record of 4 wins & 9 losses during that time? Was it the umpires' fault? Everytime?

They should concentrate on getting better, not bitter.

One of the biggest sooks is Tony Squires, from The Back Page.
As recently as last week he was still talking about how the Swans were "robbed" in 2016.
