What's your point? He's on the fringe and plays when others are injured. Given that we rarely have a full list to choose from, he plays more often than not.

Same as Mackay with Menzel, Knight and Hampton all not being available due to fitness. At least Lyons is only 1 injury away. Or none, as the case is right now.

Lyons is one injury away. Possibly more, depending on how the selectors view Menzel, Knight & Hampton. We really don't have enough information to make that call.

Mackay is in the 22, no injuries required. With the same proviso applied about Menzel, Knight & Hampton.

for this week he is. but when Seedsman comes back in, Mackay will be one of the most vulnerable.
Which brings us back full circle. I think Lyons is the one who is the most vulnerable when Brown & Seedsman return next week. I'm well aware that this is an unpopular opinion, and that I'm in the minority.

Straight replacements (Henderson or whomever comes in for Brown) and Mackay out would be the most blindingly obvious.

Next step is to admit you know nothing and are wrong.

Just for fun:

AFL Player Ratings!
David Mackay

1 NM Doesn’t win enough ball to be a huge factor. Is he in the Crows’ best 22? 3
2 Port Needed to bounce back after a poor effort in the previous game, and he did. 7
3 Rich Used as a link player through the middle of the ground. OK without starring. 5
4 Syd Six inside-50s and eight tackles, not afraid to get down and dirty. 5
5 Haw Hard to believe there were doubts on his future a while ago. Worked hard and consistently. 7
6 Frem Played his 150th game and was good, now winning more contested possessions. 6
7 WB Horror night. Five kicks, two inside-50s, three tackles not enough from experienced player. 3
8 Hamstring.
9 Hamstring.
10 Hamstring.
11 SANFL Dashing return from injury. Ran hard both ways. -
12 WCE Had good numbers without being a key player. 5
14 NM Made up for a costly turnover with an impressive second-half performance. 6
15 Melb Steady again from half-back/wing. Not flashy but did what was required. 6

Jarryd Lyons

1 Senior emergency.
2 SANFL 26 touches, 10 clearances and a goal in dazzling performance. -
3 Rich Good afternoon in midfield rotation with 20 touches and two goals. 6
4 Syd Poor first half with just three disposals, responded with a big second half. 5
5 Haw Quiet early but back-to-back goals were important in Crows’ night. 5
6 Frem Five clearances and a goal, just doing enough to hold his spot in the team. 5
7 SANFL Relatively quiet before booting clutch match-winning goal late. -
8 SANFL Bye. -
9 GCS Laid six tackles, put ball inside 50 seven times and booted a goal. Useful. 5
10 GWS Did some great work around the stoppages with six clearances. 7
11 StK Stepped up in the absence of Thompson with four clearances and four inside-50s. 7
12 WCE The hard nut won 17 contested possessions. 6
14 NM Playing his role as part of the midfield rotations. 6
15 Melb Got involved throughout. Seven inside-50s, five tackles and 12 CPs. 8

Mackay AFL Ave: 5.3
Lyons AFL Ave: 6.0

I for one do not need stats to tell me the bleeding obvious. My two cents worth:

Mookay is a deadest liability and I cringe every time he gets near the ball. Its even worse when he actually gets it and has to perform some footy skills to make an effective disposal. His so-called "extra efforts" this year are marginally passable at best and I still do not rate them as I feel they are what he should ordinarily be doing to justify his place in our best 22. Any "extra" achievements David has got this year also do not make up for the crap baggage he has inflicted on this club for a long while. He cannot leave the club quick enough for me!

Lyons is the future of the club and I would play him every time in a heartbeat ahead of Mackay (if that was my only choice to make).

I also do not feel that they are similar type players so I am unsure as to why we are even referring to them as straight swap options.

Anyways, we can only hope we get the deal of the century for Mookay like we got for Bernie! I rate Mrouch over Bernie any day of the year.

What article are people referring to regarding Seedsman in order to deduce that he won't be playing AFL this week? Something to do with the SANFL...?

Lyons has played 10 of 14 games this season

And has been somewhere between "good" and "excellent" in 9 of them. The only exception was the Sydney game where he had a shit first half. Credit to him though, he was actually really good after half time even on an off day. His pressure and tackling have gone up a couple of notches this season, he appears a yard quicker to the naked eye (possibly a fitness / confidence thing), and his decision making is probably better than all of our other midfielders.

He's not even on the radar to be dropped this week. He is the sort of player who MAY find himself out of the side if he has 1 shocker though, due to the high level of selection pressure that will be coming soon from Seedsman and Brown. As it stands right now, he's actually in better form than all of Mackay, B Crouch, Smith, Douglas and arguably Atkins, so suggesting he'll be dropped before any of them is complete nonsense.

This week we've got either Kelly or (God forbid) Henderson coming in for Brown.

Brown will be a straight swap back in to the side for whoever that player is, either against Collingwood or Geelong (depending on recovery time). My guess is he misses the Pies game.

Assuning Seed shines in the SANFL this week, he'll probably be straight back in against his old side next week. At this stage, Douglas and Mackay would be the first in line to miss out, so they're essentially playing for their spots this week. Will be interesting to see how each of them respond.

Perhaps an injury to one of these players or another mid will end up sorting this battle out. We'll have to wait and see. All I know is, IF Jarryd Lyons keeps playing like he has all season, the selectors have learnt their lesson and he will not be dropped.

And if you are right you will be even more unpopular:D

This is a shit selection. The club is kidding themselves if they think either Henderson is a) a like for like replacement for small lockdown defender Brown or b) superior to Seedsman as a wingman

The only reason I can see giving Hendo a game is that the club wants more run (aka didn't want to go like for like) but thought Seed needed a SANFL game to get up to speed.

But then why is Seed an emergency?

Confirmed Henderson in for Brown.
