Murphy is not a defensive forward though. That's a common misconception. His defensive numbers are really average
He's a nothing forward.

Poor defensively & offensively.

I did watch the beginning of the clip. It's notable because if they had stopped the video there Draper would look good and Murphy the obvious worst player involved.

Instead it keeps going long enough to make Draper look much worse and Murphy less bad.

It certainly didn't make Murphy look less bad. It showed that Draper, despite being utterly burned by Murphy, stayed in the play and got involved a couple more times. Pity about the missed pass to ANB.

Another passage in the clip has Draper being caught HTB, so it's not like it was purely highlights.

If you think that was a mark to Rankine, you are delusional.

Free kick 110%, but a mark no.

Clear robbery. Fu(k Ken.

It's a distinction without a difference. If he hadn't been literally tackled mid-mark, he would have completed it. He had the ball controlled.

Outside of fantasy football it makes no difference either way.

You obviously dont understand the rules then, but that’s ok, just don’t go preaching.
He controlled it and then ball spilt due to body contact.
That gets paid a mark.

The free kick is supposed to be paid in priority anyway (you can take advantage)

Sad thing about that whole Rankine situation is that someone like Hinge or Cumming (?) got a 50-meter penalty for doing the exact same thing somewhere around the end of the 3rd quarter...or maybe it was even in the 4th.

Only managed to watch the game last night, one thing that stood out was GC players not “stand”ing the mark when told to, many times they’re bouncing around before play on is called.
I've only noticed in the last couple of games, but quite a few of our guys will take 3-5 steps back from where the opposition mark the ball. Not sure if that's part of the game plan but first noticed it live at the North game.
Not sure what the benefit is, cause the umpires usually make them stand from where they take those steps back, especially during the Suns game.

You can move around if you're standing 5m back (supposedly) .. if stand directly on the mark, you have to stand still

That’s what I thought, but the umpires were still calling for our guys to stand even when we moved back.
I don't think that's a problem. These days, for some reason, even closer to goal, players seem to have been instructed by the coaches to go back the 5m, rather than stand the mark. If they are not quick enough to get back to the 5, the umps make them stand where they are. That seems fair enough to me.

My main problem is why the players refuse to stand the mark, even where the kicker is within goalkicking range, especially around the 50.

No the Stand Rule was to stop the increasingly blatant rort by the likes of Hawthorn et al

Now its used to dare the umpires to penalise it and fear the wrath of the coaches after the game

Yeah the correct call was probably mark, and 50m penalty.

Keane copped a similar one against North.

I don’t mean when players back off 5m and the umpire calls “outside 5”, Adelaide does that a lot now. I noticed GC bobbling around while told to “stand”. Minimal difference but when you’ve got trigger happy umpires I was surprised they were doing it quite a bit
