Don't make excuses. It's better. And no European would ever take on an Australian sport. Australians are seen here as backwards, why would anyone play their games? I'm not saying it to be horrible, but people are ignorant of Australia here.

sbagman is Australian as far as I'm aware :o

So is Pauline Hanson & all Collingwood supporters.

Haven't you people learnt anything? It's only racist when it's against the minorities.

Oh grow up. How is that racism?

I'm stating fact. Alot of people here see Australians as backwards. The north thinks the south is backwards. England thinks Ireland is backwards. The US thinks Canada is backwards. I'm not saying it's right, I'm just saying that a common perception of Australia is that of a backwater, and in the context of the discussion, it was unlikely that all of Europe was going to start playing a game played in a country percieved as such.

Please, if you're going to attack me, try harder. I'm offended so little effort was put in.
:)

Sorry Janevski, but you have it wrong. Elmer here thought sbagman was Italian and bagging Australians.

Sorry Janevski (?), but where does it say that Elmer thought sbagman was Italian?
It was you who came up with this gem: "sbagman is Australian as far as I'm aware". What, Australian's can't be racist? pfffttt You don'y know your own club's supporters too well.

And we see New Zealand as backward! :o

You can judge a man by the company he keeps, or in a kiwis case the sheep he keeps.

That's not true. We just don't even think about them. They're kinda like the French, unimportant. Australia isn't viewed as backwards here in America.

The point he was making is that he's not some foreigner having a go at Australians. Generally if you have a go at your own country it's not really racism. Not that wat sbagman said was really having a go anyway.

Sbagman is just lucky they've done away with the guillotine.

Is it treason to say your country is perceived as a backwater? If he had said Australia IS a backwater, would it have been any less accurate? Speaking here about our hopes of spreading our game to the rest of the world.

My wife is non-Australian (we met, courted and married in Europe). She had the highest opinion of Australia even before we met (which I probably did not help :D ); she'd heard of our opera, films, writers, scholars etc. etc. On our brief visit to AU we saw a couple of David Williamson plays (which were utterly brilliant!!) and an opera (pretty good), and she was duly stupefied. HOWEVER, when we came to US (where we still are), she was alarmed at how AU markets itself to the Americans--Crocodile Hunter, "How to Speak Australian" Foster's ads, the whole rugged yobbo image--it leaves her disappointed because she feels that AU is a seriously cultural place that is shortchanging itself. To be honest, though, its sheer distance from Europe/US does worry her.... :(

Who cares if we are being bagged? It's the Australian way not to give a ****. We have the best game going around, and if no one else wants to try it, then what are we losing? Lets just be happy that we have our own game. And what a great game it is.
