Yeah Carl Hooper is pretty good although I found it amusing when he was criticising the West Indies batsmen for some lazy dismissals yesterday when he was the king of lazy dismissals himself.

Kim Hughes is a great commentator and that has nothing to do with the fact that I played for the same club as him and went to the same high school.

Not at the same time I should point out, I'm much younger than him and also a much worse batsman than him.

Jim Maxwell is the Alf Stewart of Australian cricket commentary. They keep him around as that last connection to the good old days, and despite being increasingly irrelevant, they can't get rid of him.

Jim Maxwell is almost unlistenable now.

I think he had a bad turn with his health a while ago which might explain some things?

true. I can not tolerate Maxwell anymore. Has not been the same since Roebuck died and has got worse. That said he was no McGillvray at the best of times

I grew up with cricket on the wireless and Crystal Set ( at night) and for me it is a vital part of summer. Listen to SEN a bit but Katich makes Hughes sharp by comparison.

Stroke six years ago.

His speech was noticeably slurred when he came back, and I actually think it's got better since then.

The problem is that he is relentlessly negative about everything. And who wants to listen to a broadcast where you're constantly being told that what you're listening to is shit?

The ABC desperately need some new blood on their test coverage. There's plenty of them out there, maybe they need to splash some cash and get some of the ex-ABC folk back in the interim.

For mine, Corbin Middelmas is one of the finest cricket broadcasters already. I'd have him as a permanent feature of all major ABC matches.

I've switched to SEN.

I don't mind Gerard, tbh, and I'm a big fan of Adam Collins, plus their expert commentators are usually very good.

Yep, on the ABC, Middlemass is good. Dirk Nannes also

I do like Kim Hughes as well even though he does go off on a tangent every now and then. He absolutely hit the nail on the head on Sunday when the batsman called for drinks / towels etc only 3 overs after the scheduled drinks break (a pet hate of mine and no doubt other cricket watchers) - he went off and said that it's test cricket for god's sake, not under 11's etc. He was spot on.

Haven't listened to SEN and wont whilst Whately is there. I cant stand the bloke.
