In both cases, mostly critical race theorists, who are mostly academic elites that have been pushing this crap on campuses for a while now. Think impoverished lower nobles just before the French Revolution. Also, political elites who benefit from exaggerating certain threats.

Never let a good crisis go to waste and all that.

I think you are giving Trump and his backers way too much credit, he’s not Bismarck, hell, he’s not even Kaiser Wilhelm II.

Plenty of different groups are trying to take advantage of what is going on.

I think it's important for people to not get sidetracked by the way this incident ended, to the point of not putting enough importance on how it started. From what I've seen, Mr. Brooks was behaving diplomatically and politely when the cops began their questioning process. He was asleep in his car, not driving it. He offered to walk the few blocks away to his sister's place. All the cops had to do was take his keys and his plate number, and deal with him later. But they kept pushing him with the breathalyser test, and then the situation obviously escalated.

The section in the middle, where Rayshard Brooks is talking about how he wished there were assigned mentors in probation programs, someone who could be available and able to assist people in their rehabilitation, rather than just leaving them feeling trapped and lost in the system is an important point to listen to. We have to listen. If we don't we're not going to understand where the solution lies.

I hate the term "defunding" being used for what needs to happen in policing. It should be called "reintegrating", or something that more accurately reflects what it's about, as "defunding" just makes it sound like all we're doing is taking away. Which is not the case at all. It's about rebalancing the system, not emptying it of something.

Anyways, in a more balanced system, Rayshard Brooks may have been given the support he needed to not wind up passed out/asleep in a car in a Wendy's parking lot. And the cop would have received more training in deescalation instead of use of lethal force, and we wouldn't be here today, arguing about niggling details like whether or not the taser was live, or whatever.

I'm certainly no expert on crime prevention or policing, but to me, rebalancing (or "defunding", as is the chosen term) an obviously broken system of policing so that the gaps in prevention are better covered is a no-brainer. Although for some reason, the mention of this always seems to send a bunch of people off into some panic-stricken end of days we'll have no cops/we'll be taken over by right-wing extremists tirade. It's so weird.

Oh, speaking of right wing folks, I was having a look at some of the news earlier re the MAGA rally in Tulsa that's happening today. Some of the vendors are selling stun guns for ten bucks a pop, and Trump-branded knives outside the arena. Pretty sure the waiver you sign is only for if you get Covid though.

Civil disobedience is not trashing . Property destruction was not the point if the civil disobedience. Militarised police is a hallmark of fascism and this is bad.
