Put all the political bullshit aside and their a bloody good band.
The eleven worst songs of 2004.
Anyway, back to Vertigo: this song sucks so much because of the unique tag-team trio of shitty music, the forced chic of iPod ads, and its stupid fan base. I looked around on some U2 message boards to see what the fans were saying about this song and its turgid lyrics, here's what fan member "Bob" has to say:

Vertigo actually has some seriously heavy lyric - but I bet most of mainstream radio listeners will never know what they mean - I love that! It makes me feel priviledged [sic] to know what the man has to say - there are so many invaluable messages in their albums, certainly this one will be another thought provoking and life influencing scripture.

Here's a sample of the "seriously heavy lyrics" in Vertigo:

WoooAoo! WoooAoo! WoooAoo! WoooAoo!

And who could forget this poignant verse:

Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah,
Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah.

"I don't know why, but we always had this belief that there was something sacred about our music, that it was almost holy." -Bono, pompous arseh*le and lead singer of U2
The eleven worst songs of 2004.

yeah shame on Bono for helping all those Africans just to get his face on the cover of Time magazine
Look who is now Mr Serious.

Each to their own. Some people love them, some people hate them.
I happen to love them, most of you hate them. I'm sure there's bands that you all like that some people can't stand.

Waters wet, The sky's blue(sometimes), life goes on.

thing with U2 is the press turned on them after Rattle & Hum but some of there best music is buried amongst those albums after. Great lyrics and great compelations. Don't listen just to the singles. Same goes for say Unforgettable Fire. It depends on if you just like catchy songs or really powerful songs. Similar to Pearl Jam some of their unpopular stuff is actually some of their best. REM are the same.

same for me, some of their earlier stuff was quite good, but after Zooropa (which I saw their tour) that was it for me.

One thing I discovered when listening to obscure music rather than commercial music, a lot of U2's supposed new styles were copies from little known bands through Europe

Agree with Guns, there would be only two or three songs of REM I would listen to, and they are not commercial songs.

Music (as with religion and politics) the great divide.

And who is to tell me what I should and should not listen to ??
(religion and politics have that answer covered)

Couldn't agree more, Guns. Songs like "The Ground beneath her feet", "When you look at the world", "New York", "Kite", "Love and Peace or else".
Are all songs most people would not have heard but are really good songs. ( well at least I think they are)

Heading to a Korean restaurant tonight for the first time, quite looking forward to it.

Sounds great Sin. I will be experiencing the asian culture very soon. :D :thumbsu:
