I think that's showing how the left has moved centre though. CNN is more neutral than left. Left would be pushing a more socialist agenda like the Guardian. The ABC in oz is hardly a left wing channel these days but compared to the commercial networks they look like a socialist party propaganda wing.

I agree especially in regards to American politicsThe biggest trick in the world was giving humans the belief of havng a choice over who controls them
The Guardian has also moved right over the past couple of decades, gringo. It's mildly social democratic and socially liberal, but isn't socialist.
CNN might be left by American standards, but that doesn't mean much, given how right wing American politics is. It isn't left of centre by any definition I understand. Liberal in the American definition of that word perhaps. The Democrats are not left of centre, St C; Obamacare, for example, was a plan once put forward by the Republicans, yet now it's 'socialist'; that's how much to the right America has moved over the past few decades. Clinton shifted the Democrats onto Republican ground with welfare to work, NAFTA, banking de-regulation etc, as he said Democratic voters had nowhere else to go. CNN is corporate media and still pushes neo-liberal economics whilst being more socially liberal.
Nobody under 30 reads a newspaper on paper or online.Compared to the others it's still pretending at least. The Age in Melbourne is the same, it once ran a left voice up against a Murdoch paper that was like the English ones minus the ****. Now Murdoch has the only voice in most capital cities outside Melbourne and Sydney.
The best I will do is look at the headlines. Most of it is crap.Nobody under 30 reads a newspaper on paper or online.

Its shocking how bad the Herald Sun really is these days. If its not a blatant Labour bashing/pro liberal agenda its borderline tabloid garbage reporting with almost no real research done and no ethical drive to even come close to a good standard of journalism.Compared to the others it's still pretending at least. welcome to politics .... at the end of the day all parties are going to tell lies to gain power , its cutting through those lies and seeing the true core values of the political party that is the key.. at the heart of the greens party is equality, conservation, fairness and empathy ... at the heart of conservitive politics is greed, control, power, segregation, nostalga and a bit more greed..Yes it was an interesting read, you will note that I said if true because I hadn't checked it.
I can't agree on the greens they are bad news here from local council up. I admire a bit of idealism but it just borders on dishonest sometimes the rubbish I hear.
spot on... i remember from a young age my father got us kids reading the newspaper.. his belief was that in order to be successful you have to have the ability to converse with people on a number of subjects often that you had little interest in but to know the basics of it and for him the newspaper was a great source of information across a wide range of subjects... now days news reports are split into three categoriesIts shocking how bad the Herald Sun really is these days. The biggest and most stupid of late was the colossal dumbness of running a frontpage article criticising the ******* FIRE DEPARTMENT of having too many holidays. Apart from the fact it was basically a humungous lie and no firey could ever actually take those days off, to bad mouth literal selfless heroes of our society is just an absolute scum act.
Like I mean, outside of the sport section (Which isnt great but at least is just sport) it has almost no actual worth at all to society outside of lining the cat litter tray.

1. mindless gossip
2. agenda driven propaganda
3. not so subtle advertising
there is litterally no value at all in the news be it the paper or TV or even on the net... if the goal was to make us stupider its working.... the funny thing is our generation get bagged out for being self absorbed and not interested in anything yet the generation before us are the ones filling our airwaves with rubish to promote these traits ..
St trav IMO the traits you ascribe to the green party are often claimed by all parties, whether you see it in them depends on your own views.spot on... i remember from a young age my father got us kids reading the newspaper.. his belief was that in order to be successful you have to have the ability to converse with people on a number of subjects often that you had little interest in but to know the basics of it and for him the newspaper was a great source of information across a wide range of subjects... now days news reports are split into three categories

thats covered by 3 .... but also flows into #1 as well as we get gutter gossip about nobodies on nothing shows to create more interest in said nothing shows ...I don't even know which of those category's the latest fad of what suchansuch from "farmer wants a pavlova", or "My wife rules " or "best naked singer in the karaoke bar " did on the last episode falls under .
I know i'm not going to read or watch the crap. Should there be 4: Shameless cross promotion. ? or is it covered by 3?

the latest "ratings hit" love island is taking it to an all time low.. i dont know why the networks dont just cut the crap and hire pr0n stars and broadcast orgys, because its pretty much what we are getting these days with of course the "rude" bit blurred out....
let me clarify ... i dont hate baby boomers ... but i do hate the way a percentage of baby boomers push the faults of the world onto the Millennials... i respect my elders and the sacrifices they made but im not going to accept the mud thrown our way especially when most of our generations problems were the results of their generations doings ...St trav IMO the traits you ascribe to the green party are often claimed by all parties, whether you see it in them depends on your own views.
Views often driven by self-interest, people would like to believe otherwise but it's actually normal and healthy to generally put your own interests ahead of the interests of others.
You really don't like badly boomers do you, at some point in time you will realise that nobody got out of the way for us nor were we handed anything. Do you think it was all a walk in the park for your parents.
We dealt with the world we lived in just the same as we still do. Being nostalgic is not a crime I'm sure you feel it to from time to time.
You do know that it's pretty hard to find a job over 40 and incredibly difficult for people over 50.
What was considered a good education in my day for most is the bare minimum now.
One thing you can depend upon is change, it's something we all have to deal with. I was always taught that people who embrace inevitable change do better.
Yes the news is full of rubbish but to pin it on my generation is a bit hot IMO.
I could just as easily argue that the news and news cycle is driven by the attitudes and lifestyles of the younger generation.
So many opinion pieces and the subject matter would lead me to believe it's definitely not pitched at my generation.
Lindsay Tanner's book dumbing down democracy is well worth reading, you might like it.
I have 4 children st trav so I give a dam about the future and what we will leave to others.
I see the difficulties my children and their friends face and the incredible opportunities they have. I actually think they have thinks pretty good to be honest.
Love the debate by the way.
see going back a few years ago while i was renovating my home the wife and myself used to love a certain home reno show.. they had some characters on the show in the contestants and obviously we naturally had the contestants you liked and the ones you didnt but the general draw to the show was the renovations ... now days the "reality" TV shows are so scripted and have such fake built up tension/drama/scandal the actualy premiss of the show be it cooking, renovating, dating or singing is lost... can honestly say from being a one time fan of the genre of "reality" TV i now cannot stand it the exception being Survivor (im a mega nerd for that show) but even that now is more and more becoming about the brand placment then the competition...The nothing shows are full of contrived crap as well. I'm embarrassed to say my wife and daughter watch some renovation show.
Them: "Ohhh those ones are such bitches, they stopped the others from matching the wallpaper by telling the shop not to sell it to them".
Me: "Can they shop anywhere or just that shop "?
Them: "They have to shop where the show tells them "
Me: " and the shop don't sell to the others just because they asked them not to"?
Them: "Yeah "
Me: "What a load of contrived shit "
Them: "What would you know".?

I used to love Survivor - I stopped watching after the guy pretended his grandmother had died and got the sympathy win for the challenge though - not because f that, I just started walking the dog around that timeslot.i'm with trav on this one. survivor has still got me by the balls.
did you get into the Australian one?i'm with trav on this one. survivor has still got me by the balls.

nah they were differant seasons .... Jonny told the big lie in Pearl Islands .. Rupert made the failed bunker in his second go on the show in Survivor Allstars ...I used to love Survivor - I stopped watching after the guy pretended his grandmother had died and got the sympathy win for the challenge though - not because f that, I just started walking the dog around that timeslot.
Was that the same season with the big, bearded guy that wanted to build a log cabin on the beach...the result was disappointing to say the least. I think he won the fan favourite prize?
I should get back into.
it makes money .. he cares little about the content ....Murdoch the common denominator in all things bad in UK, USA, and Australia.
