There is an article in today’s Washington Post concerning a 17yo who has been accepted into all of the 20 colleges with whom he had applied.
We are talking the cream: Stanford, Harvard, Yale, Princeton, John Hopkins, MIT, Georgetown, UPenn, UCBerkeley etc.
Not only that, he got full scholarships at all of them.
A smart dude from a poor black Texan family, single mother and her only child.
My problem is this: his name is Micheal Brown.
Focus on his given name.
No, that is not a spelling mistake.
If you know anything about Americans, particularly African Americans, there is this underlying tendency to misspell names in order to give them a unique cachet.
(Kay & Peele, two African American comedians, make great fun with this).
We see a little bit of this here too.
Mainly in Fountain Lakes.....
So we have two possibilities: either his name echoes this trend, or his parents can’t spell.

Or a third.

Given how smart this kid is, maybe his (now absent) father was a Johnny Cash fan.
And this is his version of “ A boy named Sue”.

I kinda hope so.

Just for interest sake are there any other Saints forums besides Big Footy and Saintsational?
I remember yrs ago Saints Central ( I think it was called) which was accessible from the Saints Website . But I think the club knocked it on the head and just focused on social media instead.
And I remember TrueSainters which I think is also dead n buried.
Any others?? Either finished or still going??

Thats a really well written piece, I've never been a fan of poetry but Wilfred Owen was so cutting and evocative with his words. Flanagan is almost better writing opinion than novels.....well when he shares my world view, got to love an echo chamber.

Melbourne City made it through an elimination final and won by 2 goals....should have been about 6 the way they played. At least Melbourne United and City have fired for me. I was pretty sure I was cursed and any team I followed was doomed to failure. Shame I give a tiny amount of ****s compared to the way I follow the Saints. It's like when your ugly stupid children come home bragging about their achievements. You just turn you back and get angry at the favourite kid for letting the shit ones show them up. Stupid Saints.

I agree. It always gives me hope when I read the words of Australians like the Flanagan brothers.

I love Melbourne United, love the nbl. Not nearly as much as St kilda, but was very very excited when they won the championship. I will be sobbing if and when St kilda win one.

No team that I have ever cared about had won the comp before, so it was a new experience for me.

Anybody been to the new Moorabbin social club? Just got the email about them showing the Hawks game.

Do they have a bistro there? I remember having a truly awful meal there in the late 90s, Alistair Clarkson was on the table over when he was an assistant.

It's Moorabbin Social. It looks like they have done a good job on the fit out from the emails they have sent. Hopefully the old fashioned RSL meals have gone.
