From what I understand Neagle has the same potential upside as Levi except appears to have an attitude and a weight problem that unlike Levi he does not seem to be able/willing to do anything about it. .. If we do indeed cut Levi then I cannot see us picking up Neagle and if we keep Levi then why bother. .. Guess we could throw a spare rookie spot his way if we assess a potential, would hope we had other options though. ..

That was the paragraph I was waiting for (however not expecting:p)

I didn't think the idea was so ridiculous. A 23 year old 191 cm full forward who is a good mark & kick and has shown something in the past.

Would you have preferred. .. "He's a fatter, shorter version of Levi with a perceived attitude problem, do not want. .."

I know this has probably been mentioned before but would Carlton be interested in McCarthy or McCaffer from Collingwood.
Both unable to break into the strong Collingwood team and will likely seek a trade to gain greater opportunities.

Let me rephrase - i wasn't expecting a rational response, i thought posters would follow the traditional trend of 'do not want'

Yeah I understood that, thought I'd put up a shorter version to make you feel more at home ;)

I wonder if we will be able to now focus on draft pick upgrades? I wouldn't mind trying to strike up a deal with the GWS where we use McLean to upgrade our 2nd rd pick (#44) for their's (#31). They will be getting strong bodied player to help shield they young kids, and we will get some salary cap relief and a usable 2nd rd selection.

How about a good old fringe upgrade swap:

Carlton:
Setanta O'halpin, Pick 44, Pick 62

Melbourne:
Pick 36, 54

Carlton:
Paul Bower, Pick 54

West Coast:
Koby Stevens, Pick 45

Carlton:
Pick 34, 45

GWS:
Tim Mohr, Pick 31, Pick 49

Carlton:
Pick 49

Fremantle:
Dylan Roberton

We lose Setanta, Bower, Pick 44, Pick 62

We gain Stevens, Roberton, Mohr, Pick 31

How about a good old fringe upgrade swap:

Carlton:
Mclean + Pick 44

GWS:
Pick 31

Carlton:
Paul Bower

West Coast:
Koby Stevens + Pick 45

Carlton:
David Ellard + Pick 62

Fremantle:
Dylan Roberton + Pick 56

We end up with Stevens, Roberton Picks 22, 31, 56

We lose Mclean, Ellard, Bower.

Houlihan retires, delist Austin and another low ranking player or two.

Would do the first 2 trades but I would rather keep Ellard than get Roberton

With Bower wanting out now, could we possibly help out the crows and hawks with the Gunston trade??

Carlton lose: Bower
Carlton gain: Lisle + 4th Rounder

Adelaide lose: Gunston + 4th Rounder
Adelaide Gain: Bower + 3rd Rounder

Hawks lose: Lisle + 3rd Rounder
Hawks Gain: Gunston

Could then use that 4th Rounder on either upgrading another Rookie or on Buckley. Keep our first and second rounders whilst gaining a KPP

Seems like a fair deal for all parties involved

If Setanta is traded, Carlton will definitely need to pick up another key forward. With Henderson now playing in defense our only tall forward option in Waite (and Hampson now that he is being trained as a forward). Hampson is unproven and Mitchell isn't realistically going to play round one so some KPF depth will need to be recruited IMO

Edit: Forgot about thornton but depth still will need to be added

Bower for Lisle and a 4th Rounder?

Lisle isn't AFL Proven like Paul, can only play KPF and is probably close to delistement at Hawthorn

Hawks supporters seem to think he is pretty safe at the club.

Either we try and do something like that or we may be forced to get Roberton from Freo for him. I'd personally rather have Lisle than Roberton

I could see us doing some sort of deal for Mohr... at 195cm, seems a perfect fit really. And Stevens would fit into our side as a hard inside mid.

Not really sure that we might be able to swing it though.
