No photo of Gus shared initially because they were sure he was on the property.

Now that the search has moved into a "recovery phase" a photo is shared?

I presume they are now revisiting the entire time line of events probably starting back from a confirmed sighting. In a property that remote it's unlikely anyone would randomly take him.

I am surprised they haven't been able to find his body even given the difficulty of the search. Air and land search with 100's of people for nearly a week.

Fingers crossed there is some good news.

Agreed, almost need to start the investigation and look at other possibilities.

They can never be 100% sure that he is not on the property but they are saying they have covered the same areas multiple times by foot and in the air.

Surely if he’s on the property the poor kid has ended up in a hole or a dam and they just keep missing him. You just wouldn’t think it possible to not find him given the effort.

The variation of 4-6 midfielders is absolutely massive. Sure, it's "only" 1 or 2 spots but it's a 50% variance. A complete fundamental, structural change in the most important part of the field.

In Nicks' preferred system with four mids they existed in a bubble. Three on the field, one on the bench at all times. Seventy five percent T.O.G. average. No interaction with another area of the field. Nothing to synchronise with another line coach. They existed in their own bubble. Simple.

Same with the defensive group. Nicks' preferred system was 7 defenders. Six on the ground, one on the bench. At all times. No mixing, no cross-pollination. A set area of responsibility.

As soon as Rankine and Rachele (and Thilthorpe) start to push into the midfield the dynamic changes. They push players out, so suddenly Peatling/Soligo/Dawson have to spend time forward to accommodate.

The groups mix.

When they break into small groups of 6-8 players with their forwards, mids, backs line coaches who do the mid/fwd players go with? Both?

Suddenly it's a dynamic, versatile, changing structure and this is what Nicks battles with imho. For another coach it would be a weapon.
