brilliant music act from minneapolis who have been at the forefront of the alternative country scene for well over a decade. :thumbsu:

Absolute class act. "Hollywood Town Hall" and "Tomorrow The Green Grass" are two masterpieces from the 90's.

After Mark Olson left the Gary Louris led band continued with the fine "Sound Of Lies". While "Smile" didn't quite reach the lofty heights of it's predecessor's, "Rainy Day Music" was a solid return to form.

"Waiting For The Sun" is one of the greatest tracks ever committed to tape.

Benmont Tench once played piano for them

Did they like to play dress-ups?

For those of you who like the Jayhawks, track down Golden Smog.
A band that has a couple of Jayhawks and a certain fella from Wilco.
There's some cracking Jayhawks driven stuff on their albums. 3 in total I think?

Have no idea about the MO of the Nurses Union music history, but the real Mark Olson played upright bass in a rockabilly band called Stagger Lee prior to The Jayhawks.

Golden Smog have just released a new album this year, so yeah 3 albums and an EP I think. I'm not sure if "Scot Summit" features on the new one :D (On GS's Down By The Old Mainstream record the members used pseudonyms due to contractual obligations. Scot Summit = Jeff Tweedy (taps avatar))

I've got Golden Smog's Weird Tales album which also features Jody Stephens from Big Star on drums. I haven't actually listened to it much, but it's not a bad record from memory.

Yep, Dan Murphy is one of the regular members. I think Dave Pirner sang a track on their first EP as well.

Can you remember what the new album is called.
I'm going to search it out.
