A frustrating artist to an extent - could write pop songs as good as anyone (Starman, Rebel Rebel), but made too much avant-garde, weird stuff (Sense of Doubt). Depends what you like I suppose.

His album covers were also weird, very androgynous.

Pure genius. And love his glam rock/pop stuff as well as his avant-garde stuff. Low/Heroes are my favorites and stand as not only his best but among the best of any artist ever. Helped pioneer electronica along with the likes of kraftwerk & early human league and was a huge influence on the synth pop/new romantic movement. Almost as influential as the beatles on the history of rock.

i adore bowie, one of my absolute favourites! already we can see here, he divides people, but personally i find he can still churn out a pretty good album (his effort from a couple of years back, reality, is one of his best offerings, to me)

undeniably has quite a string of massive hits - changes, heroes, let's dance, space oddity (major tom), under pressure (with queen), rebel rebel, young americans, ashes to ashes, starman, etc.

Hit and miss for me. His great stuff (Suffragette City, Modern Love, Ashes to Ashes & China Girl) are as good as it gets. His dreadful stuff (Alabama Song, Life On Mars & Boys Keep Swinging) I just can't listen to at all.

 How can you say Life on Mars is dreadfull?? It is probably his best song (IMO), and one of the best piano-pop tunes of all time! My favourite Bowie album is actually The Man Who Sold the World - its a bit heavy compared to his other stuff, but there are some very original songs. Closely followed by Hunky Dory. Also have a soft spot for the 80s hit "Absolute Beginners"...

Yeah while some of his later efforts ,such as Earthling, were very good, his last truly great album was Scary Monsters.

When he is good is is without peer - when he is bad it is hard to over emphasize how bad he is becuase he smothers his badness in pretentiousness which is always a shocker - Station to Station is one of the greatest albums ever

Yeah his bad stuff can be awful..Blue Jean anyone?

You can put all that eighties crap in the same basket - Modern Love, China Girl and the rest of that drivel. The thin white dute period was fantastic!

Not fond of Modern Love..China Girl is ok..Let's Dance(song)is good. Generally he lost his mojo after Scary Monsters. I liked Cat People though..

Broad range...earlier material that made him the entertainer is what I dig best. I am a 6.5/10 Bowie fan. Have his greatest hits double CD. :thumbsu:

I also like "Pablo Picasso" which bounces high as his best of his last 10 years.
