Will probably be something like this at the start of the season.
Thoughts?

Interesting structure you are going with here Murphhh in 6 premium backs. I actually don't mind it. Your backline might not need touching all season if they stay healthy.

You can probably get away with not starting as many premium forwards this year because Richardson, Mzungu, Krakouer and Matera look genuine starting options at least early on. The price fluctuations of forwards generally means there is often a bargain upgrade target to be had so it's probably the easiest line to upgrade anyway.

Perhaps 1 too many injury prone players for my liking with Broughton, Grimes, Higgins and Chappy. But it's looking solid mate.

I have commented on other teams in this thread without posting mine so interested in peoples thoughts?. Clearly won't be complete until round 1 but pretty happy with it at the moment.

BACKSGoddard, Gibbs, Deledio, Broughton, Grimes, Otten, Toy (Puopolo, Hibberd, Duigan)
MIDSSwan, Montagna, Murphy, D.Swallow, Conca, Heppell (Mzungu, Harris, Atley)
RUCKSSandilands, Cox (Z.Smith, B.Mcauley)
FWDSChapman, Franklin, Riewoldt, Rioli, Higgins, Krakouer, Richardson (Matera, Darling, Callinan)

Main focus is on overall so I'm prepared to burn trades in round to cover a zero if required.

Not a bad looking team. I dont like the look of Conca, but that is simply opinion.
The only things I would change is probably swaping Montagna, becuase you already have Reiwoldt and Goddard, so having 3 premiums from St Kilda will kill you when they have there bye.
Also having both Franklin and Rioli in your forwards would have the same effect. Your going to have to rely heavily on your bench players scoring well during St Kilda and Hawthorns byes.

make sure you dont get to many premiums from the one side due to the byes, and a question mark on chapman as his still recovering from an injury might pay to hold off on him and c how he goes

Apparently it's just a bit of soreness in his groin, nothing to serious, but the club isn't going to take any risks given his histroy with soft tissue. He is still a good chance to play in the final practice match, so if he does he should be fine. Fingers crossed though (I dont want to have to have to pick another premium for my forward line, the stocks are running low).

Backs are fine.

Mids- You have stars in teh mids that are under injury clouds, Ablett-Judd-Cooney. IMO they will drop in value which is obviously the time to trade for them.

Petrie starting is a big risk.

Knights-Veszpremi-Krak are all risky. Could pay off but 3 risky players is 1 to many in the 1 position. Could improve on the fwd bench.

I agree with you on Conca, not sold on him but can't afford Gaff, have changed Conca to Polec?. I understand what people are saying when it comes to having too many premiums from the one team but who else would you suggest at that price? Boyd and Cross have a bye on the same round as the saints? Already have Swan so that eliminates Pendlebury, have Franklin and Rioli which eliminates Hodge. My view is to make a team you are happy with then deal with byes ect when they come, as I said before I'm happy to burn a trade or 2 to avoid a zero if it means I have the premiums I want from the start. At the end of the day I can deal with a zero if Roo, Goddard and Montagna end up being 3 of the 10 best scorers for the year. Appreciate your thoughts though, certainly going to be an interesting year.

Nobody can argue with that! As they say though your often only as good as your bottom 5 or 6 and they look a little weak (ie I.Smith, C.Richo, Cheney, Puopulo, Heppell all starting...). I think it would be worth spending some of that $307k upgrading one of those 2 cheap backs (cheney or puopulo maybe).

Zaharakis and Brennan maybe risks I would say there are better players around Zaharakis's's price range IMO and Brennan... well who knows what the hell he'll produce this year! Good luck mate.

Thanks buddy, appreciate it.. Yeah, thinking about upgrading/downgrading some of the guys mentioned, but who do I look at? Not much else available around the $200,000 - $300,000 mark?

Nick Suban - Not sure that heading into his third season he is going to set the world on fire.
Phil Davis - Again, not sure he is going to dominant or he is worth enough to be a cash cow.
Jeremy Laidler - An interesting option, not sure where he fits in at Carlton, or wheter or not he is going to be good enough to be a cash cow, or as a keeper.
Daniel Menzel - Again, is he going to be a permanent starter in the powerful Geelong line up?
Mark Nickoski - As silly as it sounds, probably the best option around the lower end of the spectrum. If injury free could be a solid 6th - 7th backline player and average mid 70's.
Danny Stanley - Will play most games if injury free, with the bye round 1 am starting to wonder wheter I pick Gold Coast players now, or if I pick them leading into round 4 (that way I can select the better Gold Coast options - of course the second/third tier players not the premiums like David Swallow, Gary Ablett, Jarred Brennan) and still cash in on their likely price increases.
James Strauss - An interesting option, not sure wheter he will be a permanent starter in the young Demons line up, if he is, he could be a perfect cash cow.
Then you have other 'cash cow' options such as Peter Faulks, Simon Buckley, Seb Tape.

Just on a couple of them, obviously going into round 1 will give us a better indication of who the best rookies ( in the backline are).
Think that Kyle Cheney will get every chance possible to crack a consistant run with the hawks after being traded from Melbourne.

The other rookie's are all possible round 1 starters, so they can all interchange with each other.

With the mid priced guys (Zaharakis, Brennan, Higgins even, Anthony) these are the guys who are going to win/lose you leagues this season. Zaharakis will have a good season, just have a good feeling after following him this pre season, have other options if he does fall through though, Brennan will play most games if fit and can do the impossible and pull out 130 averages perhaps, Higgins from all reports is injury free for the first time in a few years and after a breakout 2009, here's hoping he returns to that form that saw him average mid 90's.

Thanks any ways for that,

Any comments on one of my many cracks in this pre-season would be greatly appreciated:

BACKS: Goddard, Deledio, Enright, Bock, Adcock, Otten, Heppell (Talia, Pederson, Puopulo)

MIDS: Judd, Pendlebury, Boyd, Bartel, Krakouer, Swallow (Harris, Pittard, Callinan)

RUCKS: Sandilands, Petrie (Moran, Campbell)

FWDS: N.Riewoldt, Franklin, Pavlich, Sylvia, Higgins, Dangerfield, Mzzungu (Prestia, L.Johnston, Smith)

Cash: $6,500

Thanks guys

Since you helped me out, here's my advice to you.

BACKS: Bock and Adcock both coming from a long way back in the pre season, so not sure they will have a good enough year to be keepers. Talis and Pederson are both unproven talls who often take longer to develop, however Pederson is starting to raise some eye brows around Arden street.

MIDS:pendlebury seems to be the forgotten man somewhat, had I not had Swan and KRakouer, Pendlebury (or Sidebottom) would have got a gig in the midfield. Not sure Pittard will play most games, and Callinana from match reports is having a good pre season, so he could surprise.

RUCKS: Might need to just go and splay out your cash and pick two premiums and two rookies. Petrie could be a handy third ruck, just not a starter.

FORWARDS: Franklin is a perenial slow starter, trade target for mine, Sylvia is the unfulfilled teasing talent that may never come on fully whilt PAtrick Dangerfield could go one of two ways. Lewis Johnston may not play many games, would like him to, but dont think he will.

Thanks for that buddy.

I notice you dont have any geelong players in your midfield, Bartel or Selwood both look like solid options. I cant see Selwoods average taking much of a hit, and Bartle is a proven super coach stars, and stats show that he excels with the absence of Ablett. I would still consider Cross or Boyd becuase there byes only clash once, so it would mean that instead of losing 3 players twice you would only loose them once (and it's at the start of the season).

Good choice with Polec, he looks very settled as a player, and looked like he belonged in his pre season performances.

Ok. You'll have fun with Duffield and Shaw's very high and very low scores. Hope Otten has a good year. Midfield looks good. 3 Saint premos could be annoying with the bye they have. Rucks you could be playing with only 1 come round 1 with Petrie out and Bailey/Dericx not sure thing. Wouldn't have both Franklin or Rioli. Higgins is a boom or bust. Will Dick play much this year? haven't heard much from him. Watts is a very risky pick. Looking better each year though.. Use around 300k on upgrading Watts/Dick/Petrie

^^^^^What he said re. Upgrading ^^^^^

You have all that money left over because your forward line is poor.

What's with all the old fellas in the midfield also?

You could probably do with getting Swan or Pendles in over Hayes or Bartel.

Here's my team so far, all comments are appreciated.

Back: Goddard, Gibbs, Deledio, Chaplin, Grimes, Kennelly, Otten.
(Bench: Heppell, Toy, Puopolo)

I'm not very good at judging other teams really. Here is my team and I must say that reading this thread has a lot to do with it. Any input appreciated. :)

You've been reading the thread wrong then...

There is no way this thread would advocate a backline with Carrazzo, Adcock, Nicoski.

Apart from that not too bad, most likely missing a premium in your Forwards, a couple of risky options in the Mids and Clarke a bit of a risk also.

Gold Coast have the bye round 1 so you may struggle having two GC players in your midfield to kick off, you'll have to rely on your rookies to play.

G'day all, my team is below, any and all comments will be appreciated! :thumbsu: I'm relatively happy with it at the moment, tried to pick either guns or rookies/cheapies. I just gave Jolly the arse for Fraser so i could get Chapman and squeezed Broughton into the backline, but if there are any more improvements possible i'd like to hear em!

I would be leaving Fraser on the pine! I don't think he needs to be in anyones team! The team looks pretty good as far as my completely uninformed opinion goes.

Here is my team, all I have done is picked a few players I like and looked what everyone else is doing on bigfooty.

The only thing I would suggest is cutting back in the mids to upgrade Coad or Jacobs in the backs.

Maybe Shuey to Harris and if you need more cash another premium down to a Dangerfield or similar

Really poor team here. It's a start but you have a bit to do.

Gilbert, Gamble, Petrie, Knights???????????

Kraks in the mids?

Harbrow, Grundy, Shaw, Hurley??

And too risky with Kennedy and Burgoyne. I wouldn't think both of them will increase by the amount they need to, to become keepers in your midfield.
