Based on what I believe is our best 22 (No Bradshaw, too risky to include him).

B: Smith Grundy Mattner

HB: Kennelly LRT Malceski

C: Hannebery Jack Bolton

HF: O'Keefe Reid Pyke

F: McVeigh White Bevan

Foll: Mumford Kennedy Goodes

Int: Rohan Richards Shaw McGlynn

Depth players would include:

Moore (mid) Jetta (mid/wing) Bird (mid) Seaby (ruck) Johnson (def) Parker (mid) Meredith (mid) Johnston (fwd/def) TDL (fwd) Lamb (fwd) Sumner (hb/mid) and Spangher (def) Everitt (fwd).

I named Parker and Lamb based on decent reserves form and we already know Sumner is in the mix. Johnston has a way to go but would do a job for us if needed, as would Spangher.

My ratings based on what we've seen/potential etc. (Ratings in brackets)

Defenders = 3 (6.5)
Midfielders = 6 (7)
Forwards = 4 (6.5)
Rucks = 1 (7)

Total = 27/40

I'd be interested to see how fellow Sydney supporters (or the opposition) rate our depth. Hopefully when the likes of Johnson, Sumner, Parker etc get a few games under their belt that score will improve considerably.

Defenders 3/10
Mids 8/10
Fwds 5/10
Rucks 9/10

No depth in defense
Building nicely in the Midfield
Forward line is over-rated
Ruck stocks are among the best depth wise in the AFL, BUT its a pointless fact with the Sub rule and you go with one ruckman.

So basically, solid depth in the midfield and nothing to be excited about elsewhere but as always happy to be proven wrong on that front.

I think we are seeing our Depth in backline already
Currently have 3 first pick players from out backline out in LRT, Malceski, Kennelly

So backline depth isn't terrible if all were fit, we've just had an extroadinary number of injuries to backline players (also missing Campbell Heath who would almost certainly have been pushing for senior selection as a defender this year)

If it was as bad as some here are saying we'd be looking allot closer to Brisbanes backline last year when they had a huge number of injuries.

B: Smith Grundy Richards

HB: Kennelly LRT Malceski

C: Hannebery Jack Bolton

HF: O'Keefe Reid McVeigh

F: Rohan White Bevan

Foll: Mumford Kennedy Goodes

Int:Pyke, Jetta, McGlynn, Moore

Backs: 6/10 - Sumner, Johnson, Mattner, Heath, Everitt, Shaw

Mids: 4/10 - Bird, Gordon, Parker, Meredith

Fwds: 5/10 TDL, Johnston, Lamb (score is higher because a number of our depth players can also play forward) (score also higher because I rate Johnston super highly)

Rucks: 9/10 - Pyke/Seaby/Currie/White

Total :24/40

So I guess I disagree with a number of posters here in that I think our back depth is good, the fact that there are currently 4, of what I could call depth players in our backline may make you underestimate our depth there.

Mid depth is misleading, because I have only really done it based on players outside best 22 and we have a number of mids in the best team playing on forward line, so if one went down we would likely reposition them and bring in depth player on a forward flank.

Fwd depth numbers wise is a bit of a worry, however quality wise, TDL and Johnston are pretty great inclusions in my opinion either of which would slot straight into the team. (hopefully Johnston gets a run soon)

Ruck depth wise we are very well positioned, 2 AFL quality ruckmen spare however would not be surprised to have trouble hanging onto 1 or 2 of them, as Currie is likely to seek opportunitys elsewhere and I hope we can assist seaby in finding opportunities elsewhere and hang on to Pyke and Mumford. This means we will likely have to look @ recruiting another ruckman down the track for development and depth purposes.

tl;dr
back depth underrated

Why isn't Everitt mentioned?

I thought I had him in my best 22, therefore not as a depth player. I'd have him exclusively as a forward and I think he could be more than handy for us there, so I'll edit my first post and adjust the ratings accordingly.

Our defence is a big issue at the moment- LRT will be massive inclusion though. Grundy has grown well into a KD but his disposal is still sus. Richards does his job well.
3/10

Midfield seems to be solid enough- have got some good kids pushing their case in the reserves and players like kennedy and jack are only going to improve more.
7/10

Our ruckman department is probably our best depth. Seaby and Pyke are capable of doing a decent job if Mumford goes down or Horse decides to go with a proper 2nd ruckman instead of using White. Pyke isn't far away from getting the nod, especially with his performance in the reserves on the weekend.
9/10

Forward line is a bit touch and go at the moment, there isn't anyone capable of kicking 50+ goals for the year, except for Bradshaw who isn't even a sure thing to play footy again. Goodes does make life easier being able to rotate from forward to midfield. Reid has been impressive and you can only see him getting better. Johnstone will need to have a big year and show enough to get some game time throughout the year. White REALLY needs to do something!

Given the injuries we've had in our back line, I'd say our defence is holding up brilliantly. Mattner and Ted are just about in career best form, Grundy is doing job defensively, Smith is doing what he does, Johnson has been solid in his 2 games and Shaw has been decent defensively while providing run. Get Tadhg LRT and Mal back into that back 6 and I'd say our depth is pretty decent.

It's the forward line that is the worry atm for me. Seems like forward structure goes out the window every week. Maybe that's due to 2 young talls as the targets (in Bradshaw's absence) but we rely on McGlynn and Goodes to kick multiple goals every week it seems.

I've been to 3/4 of our games and the fourth I only saw glimpses of, so I haven't had the most complete vision of the team that others may have, so I guess I'll see in later weeks..

I think you need to separate our depth a bit differently. Our depth in running players with no speed but good football smarts is exceptional. We have a never-ending supply of short players with average disposal we can bring into the backline and midfield.

However our depth in key position players borders on non-existant. If White or Grundy went down tomorrow, who would come in to replace them? Johnston for all his talent is not a key forward. Spangher and LRT are injured. Haren? Seriously, name a key position player who is able to come into the side and be a competent AFL footballer. Pyke and Seaby are close to pure ruckmen, and I definitely wouldn't want either of them in defence. Although I believe Pyke definitely has the potential to become a good forward option with time
