Thought we should take a look at our list from a trade point of view.

Now I trend to do this every year and seem to get it pretty right when I spend some time doing it, I rate every play from 1 to 100; 1 being gone, 100 being untouchable.

anyone care to help me out?
So far I've rated T. Cloke as 100, Pendlebury & Thomas in the 90's.

Ben Johnson, Lonie, Toovey, Holland & Egan all in danger as the lowest ranked players on 5.

Out of 10 i rate us

6/10

We really struggle with our midfield and are one backman short from being a very good team we have great KPP stocks which most clubs struggle to find hopefully it can all be adressed this upcoming draft

put simply, our list isnt strong at all. however the way mick develops the players and gets them together, and gets the best out of them is second to none. you imagine micky coachign hawthorns or geelongs list? we have plenty of cloggers.. lonie, toovey, BJ, dutchy, Bryan (wood is much better), dick, etc

and as for the rating on pendlebury

Pendlebury
Speed 6/10
Jump 6/10
Evasiveness 10/10
Marking 6/10
Handball 10/10
Kicking Accuracy 9/10
Kicking Distance 6/10

i disagree with almost all of it. it should be more like this..

Pendlebury
Speed 7/10
Jump 8/10
Evasiveness 10/10
Marking 8/10
Handball 9/10
Kicking Accuracy 9/10
Kicking Distance 7/10
Snap Shot 7/10
Contested Possession 8/10
Tackling 7/10
Spoiling 5/10
Stamina 8/10

all of his tackles stick, he gets more contested possessions % than joel selwood (which many people dont realise), he kicks a great snap shot goal and he's tank is developing into one of the best at our football club

You forgot Toughness.

Pendlebury 2/10
Selwood 8/10

Enough with Selwood comparison tho.

Our list lacks 22-25 y/o's due to poor drafting 2001-2004.

Remember guys like Shackleton, Nixon, Iacobucci just to name a few, we made some poor decisions.

Until our youngsters get somewhere near that age group we won't get anywhere near a flag.

Our tall stocks are in reasonable shape as mentioned before probably 1 tall defender short (pardon the pun :D)! Have liked the idea of Reid given a shot down back tho (as I think Riewolt would also make a good CHB, but that's for another debate).

Our midfield whilst our weakness ATM has (that horrible word) great potential with guys like Pendlebury, Thomas, Clarke who we will all be looking to take the next step, but both McCarthy and Wellingham have given cause for optimism and shown glimses of ablilty with some toughness.

We need a couple more to add to that group above and we'll hopefully get one this draft. But Swan, Didak and Davis added make that midfield look quite dynamic.

As for forwards, well we've got them coming out of our armpits!! Which is a good thing.

Our list is very healthy IMO, however due to the poor drafting as mentioned early we are still 2-3 years away for a serious tilt at the flag. It all depends on how quickly guys like McCarthy, Wellingham, Clarke, Brown, Reid, Dawes and others develop.

Who knows it could be as early as next year.

But Pies fans have got a lot to be excited about IMO.

Go Pies!:thumbsu:

I feel we are 2 class midfielders from being an extremely dangerous side.

Ben Couisins would fill 1 spot. I say this because guys like Dane Swan and Pendles will be getting far less attention with 2 guns in the middle freeing them up.

I feel Presti may still have another year or 2 in him and by that time I'm sure 1 of our young forwards would become that backman. eg Dawes, Reid or JA.

I love JAs' kicking for goal though.

IMO there are two areas on the list we are really lacking: experience, and midfield

if you look at our list, we have only 1 player between 23-25, and 9 players 27 or older.

the problem is of those 9 players, we've really only got 3 who have successfully performed in an IMPORTANT role this year. Burns, Wakelin, and Davis. Lockyer has been ok but has been sort of plugging holes here and there, and I refuse to accept O'bree as successfully completing his role. Rocca, Presti, and Holland have barely played this year, and Ben Johnson has been rubbish.

Burns missing this week is a big loss...

Yeah I agree. Experts always say you need a core group of players that have played 100+ games or the 22-28 age range.

I just had a look at all the teams for this week. We have the lowest number of players with 100+ games experience with 6. Hawthorn is the only other side with less than 10 - they have 8 players over 100 games.

For those curious, the dogs have 13, Swans 16, North 14, Crows 12, Geelong 14 and St Kilda 11.

So far I've come up with this list
Code:
 Travis Cloke 100
 Scott Pendlebury 90
 Dale Thomas 90
 Heritier O'Brien 80
 Heath Shaw 80
 Dane Swan 80
John Anthony 75
 Nathan Brown 75
 Martin Clarke 75
 Leon Davis 70
 Nick Maxwell 70
 Paul Medhurst 70
 Sean Rusling 70
 Alan Didak 50
 Josh Fraser 50
 Anthony Rocca 30
 Chris Bryan 45
 Chris Egan 5
 Brodie Holland 5
 Ben Johnson 5
 Ryan Lonie 5
 Alan Toovey 5
Now they are not how I rate a player in skill, but what they're worth to the club when it comes to delisting and trading.
Players liek Egan, Holland & Johnson IMO are gone and will be traded/delisted, players like Cloke are priceless and we cannot trade or delist him.
90's are only if we get a superstar ie Kerr or top 3 draft pick
80's are only if we get a player of like or a top 8 draft pick.

I like this assessment. We have an interesting list. Whether it gets the job done is soooooooo dependent on a few of them taking the next step to the elite level - no easy task. If it does happens, everyone walks a little taller and you have A Team. The problem is, I'm still not sure where the elite players are going to come from. ?? Pendles and Cloke, but Thomas, Clarke, Dawes, Wellingham etc need to show a LOT more. If elite players were easy to find, the term "elite" wouldn't exist.

Whats this toughness stuff about Pendles? He sticks hie head over the ball when needed. i do agree Selwood is better at the tough stuff(albeit slightly), Pendles is no a 2/10. At least 5. Personally, i would go 7 for Pendles and 9 for Selwood

didak is not tradeable... stars like him win finals off their own boots.. final chance for dids to become what he is destined.. AN AFL GREAT

The reason why I gave him that rating was because of all the trouble over the last 2 years.
If we can get a high draft pick, a good quick midfielder who can use the ball well I think he's a must trade, if not then he stays and takes us as far as we can go.

yeah i agree.. i think its a misconception based on physique and demeanour... ive never seen pendles back away from a contest or duck his head.. puts his body on the line ehwn needed.. selwood just has that pitbull aura about him whereas pendles is seems more like a dalmation...
