No I dont mean rate your old fella, I mean rate your favorite meats.

Inspired by the 'Hams got it all over turkey' thread I was just interested in what people's favorite meat was.

The best ever meat meal Ive had was at Mietta's in Queenscliffe around 8 years ago. I was shouted a weekend there and you only went to this Mietta's for the food. On the saturday night I didnt recognise a single thing on the menu apart from Kangaroo. I'd never had it before so thought why not. The Roo cost around $60 in 98 prices, but I wasnt paying for it so thought what the hell.

My plate came out with four slices of Roo, literally swimming in 15 millimetres of blood. Nothing else on teh plate. Up until now Id always preferred my meat well done, but because I knew it cost so much I knew I had to at least try it.... And it was the most delicious cut of meat Ive had in my life, and still is.

Ever since I like all my red meats done rare.

Second favorite was a Christmas Turkey in 1996 at Cowes.

So I rate my meat as follows.

1. Kangaroo (imperative it is cooked right)
2. Turkey (imperative it is cooked right)
3. Ham, Bacon, Pork, Pig (extremley consistent and versatile)
4. Chicken
5. Steak (Beef)
6. Dagwood Dogs

I have left out seafood. If I was to include Seafood as 'meat' Atlantic Salmon and Prawns would be either #3 or 4.

1. Beef
2. pork/ham/bacon
3. chicken

Didnt even consideder Duck, sorry bout that Donald.

Only had it a couple of times and while it was pretty good, Id bought it from one of those Asian restaurants in Russell st and the entire time I was eating it, I couldnt help but think about how long it had been hanging in their window with all kinds of people coughing and spluttering over it. Was also a little dry too.

I'd slot turkey just under chicken. Haven't experienced good roo yet.

Most people Ive spoken to about the Roo have said theirs were dry and really chewy, whereas mine was almost melting on my tounge.

Ive come to the conclusion that Roo needs to be done rare, very rare. Too bad if you like your meat charcholed I guess.

If you're going to try it, suss out who and where has good Roo, and be prepared to pay well for it. Should be a few good places in Sydney for good Roo Id imagine.

You've essentially got the same meat, or animal, in 3 different categories:confused:

I know, I thought I'd split it into 3 different categories. I just like bacon more than ham and ham more than pork. :)

I mince my roo with potatoes, bacon, mutton flaps, bread, carrot, onion...then add raw, eggs and spices. they are superb when either fried or cooked in gravy...A combination of roo and venison is also quite good ,and the bonus is the roo and venison costs me nothing . :thumbsu:
so my list is :
1 Roo/Wallaby
2 Pork,bacon,ham etc
3 Lamb
4 chicken
5 venison
6 beef

A very young wallaby baked in an oven bag with bacon and onion + spices is also absolutely delicious

as for dry old Turkey and bland Lobster ....:thumbsd:
