Thought I would waste a little bit of time and give an opinion on where I see our list as it stands.

Elite: Nathan Brown

Top Quality: J.Bowden, M.Richardson, T Simmonds(when fully fit)

Potential Stars: N.Foley, Deledio, Tuck, Coughlan(due to injury), Tambling, Polak, King, Pattison, Newman, Pettifer

Servicable: Johnson, Tivendale, Krakouer, Jackson,

Need More Time: Meyer, JON, Hughes, Riewoldt, Polo, McGuane, Thursfield, Raines, White, Hartigan, Edwards,

On Borrowed Time: Hall, Schulz, Knobel, Kingsley, P.Bowden, Moore, Hyde, Howat

Yet To Be Seen: Casserly, Connors, Collins, Clingan (R), Graham (R), Peterson.

Agree with most of those, however I don't think there's much improvement left in Tuck. I think he's more serviceable rather than a potential star. I hope he proves me wrong tho..
I dunno if Pettifer is a potential star, but his best is good - he just needs to show it more often. However, with Browny back, its freed him up a lot and he's been playing well in the last few rounds.
Krak might be on borrowed time. He's only ever shown glimpses at times and rarely has good consistent games back to back. That's not enough from someone who's been there 100 games.

Because he is not a superstar. According to some in here, we must have 22 stars on the ground. I'm more than happy having players like Hyde and Howat in the team. As for Richo, he is an elite player

Because Howat is a poor mans version of Tivendale thats why. One sided front runner who refuses to pay attention to a man while just working in one direction, if he wants to make it as an player on the Tigers list he needs to bring more to the table than what a bloke like Tivendale does. He needs to be accountable for a man, needs to be able to tag effectively when called upon, I don't expect him to kick 3-4 goals every other week or rack up 30 odd touches, what I expect is that when he needs to make sure his opponent is not hurting us he does so.

As for MT's assertion that I believe we need to have a team of 22 superstars I would like him to go out and find where I have said that.

Although Richo is a truly great Richmond player I did not rate him as elite because of the amount of times he has had brain fade, elite players do not have those type of brain fades on a semi weekly basis. Almost once a game you can see the thought process as it evolves in Richo's head. Don't get me wrong I love the big lug as much as the next Tigers supporter but I think being a top quality player is about Richo's level.

With Foley I was tempted to put him in the top quality class but I don't think he is there just yet (damn close though), still has a bit to learn in terms of becoming that top quality midfielder we lack. Great at clearances & great work ethic just needs to start doing more of what he did on Saturday (scoreboard damage) to lift into that catergory IMO.

Jackson has been good for 3-4 games this year yet before that had not done a heap to suggest he was going to make it. Now he has earned a bit more time on the list I think he is still a servicable player at this stage. Need him to become a consistent stopper to really step up into that potential star catergory.

Hyde is a player that fits into that group that is battling amongst others: Deledio, Tambling, Edwards, Foley & King for positions and game time and at the moment those players are ahead of him in the pecking order. Could still be a handy depth player but if there was a younger kid coming through that could offer a little more I would consider going with the kid.

This was not designed to be a feel good thread it was designed to open up a few eyes to where our list stands. We have 3 players that would be considered top quality or elite, we have a host of potential stars, a few servicable players, a bunch that needs more time before we can rate them effectively, another group we have not seen at AFL level and a bunch that may well be on their last legs. Until we get to the stage where we have 6-8 players in the top 2 catergories, another 10-15 in the next 2 catergories we will always be a team that will climb as high as 9th, only to then plummet back down towards the bottom.

sheesh without going into specifics the 10 or 12 players on the list who are just not good enough leaves a big enough hole. throw in the half dozen players who are average at best and almost half the list could go.whats left is a handful of decent players and a shedload of development players who are just that development players.this is why we have the worst list in the comp. i wont go into player specifics ive voiced my opinions on the many duds on our list in other threads.
