Geez, sounds like a riot! We'd best take a powerful hallucinogen so we can pretend that we're having fun!

(I voted no - can you tell? :D )

What ever tickles your fancy.

By the way DCFC its not about the drugs. If it is about the drugs then the people are in the rave scene for the wrong reasons. Its about dancing, the music and having a bloody good time. Its music & dancing first, drugs second.

Thats what distinguishes us party goers from bongheads and smack addicts.

Another thing to try which gives that feeling is Vicks Nasal Inhaler....not the squirty spray stuff but the little plastic thing that looks about the size of a plastic tampon. slightly burn it with a lighter to heat the vapours, then sniff in hard in each nostril and you can feel all the vapours, clears your head and send you to outer space.

I hear ya! I love the vicks inhalers. Burn it until it goes black and the vapours go right through your head. Its an unbelievable feeling..

I'm detecting a slight inconsistency in your ideology. :D

Ecstacy is not in itself a hallucigen. I believe it causes the release of serotonin (calming chemical) from your brain, so in actual fact you are getting high of your own body's chemicals. Of course, this does leave you feeling a bit flat the next day, as well as probably being sleep deprived.

As for techno being talentless, I must disagree. People like me are very fussy about their music and yes, I hate the majority of techno. But I would venture to say I hate the majority of rock! You just find your niche. Mine happens to be harder trance, which is technically awesome and geared towards ecstacy users.

DCFC perhaps you can use some form of intelligence to distinguish the difference between drug and non drug highs. Besides i was making no link to raves and vicks inhalers.

I would have to disagreen with your statement that music is geared towards ecstacy users. I don't believe that is possible. It is more that ecstacy users gear themselves towards the music. I prefer harder trance and nrg, used to like hardhouse but I am now getting away from that "cheesy" sound.

If you like breaks, it is starting to come into prominence in Melbourne. My brother is actually hosting a free breaks party during the day in a couple of weekends. It is totally drug free and I would expect people that go will have a great time..

Yes, I rescind the word "talentless" and replace it with "artless".
I'd agree with it being a little sterile/soul-less, but venture to say that it still produces some fantastic highs. They run their sets like roller-coasters. It's a lot of fun!

Unlike glenferrie though, I make no bones about the fact that I wouldn't go to these clubs without eckies. It's a great culture at the majority of these things, but sober I would rather be somewhere quieter.

i agree. it does take some kind of talent to become a dj. You cant just go and put records on...you do have to know what to do. There is a lot of crappy techno out there, but also a lot of good stuff. I prefer a lot of the underground stuff you have to import from other countries. Holland and UK are the dance specialists in the world and there are countless numbers of awesome tracks that come out of those countries.

The style of electronica/techno i like are Hard House, Hard Trance, Hi NRG and good ol Jungle/Drum n Bass. Im listening to LTJ Bukem right now...one of the best DnB DJs in australia

no, no, no Figjam. You're getting me all wrong. I don't go out straight - as in no drugs / or no piss. I am saying that I don't sit around at peoples houses dropping pills and doing that all day. I go out and drink most of the time. Sometimes E's are just used to keep me awake so i can stay on the dance floor. I don't think I could handle going to a club without a drink anyway.

Well said. It definatly makes the night a lot better and often more enjoyable. Altho i can have eplenty of fun without it, i can have a different type of fun with it. Cos it takes me a good $75-90 to get me drunk...id much rather spend $35-$40 on a E and have a even better time too

Its definatly about the music and the atmosphere i reckon. The E just helps your body connect to your music...you can feel the music flow thru you...close your eyes and dance like mad and you get this awesome warm feeling thru your body.

The other week i took an E to test it out before the rave to see if it was any good, i then went driving to Victor with two mates....it was alright and we had a good time until we drove back to Adelaide listening Paul Van Dyk live @ Gallery Turnmills...my fave live set....and the E took over and i was basically paralysed in the back seat with a smile on my face going OOOOHHHH MMMYYYY GGOOOODDDD. So altho i had a good time without the dance music, the dance music heightened the feeling to boiling point...cos i could feel the music running thru me. Great feeling that :)

After watching this converstation go back and forth, i'm gonna have my say.

Why does everybody who gets an e into them want to listen to DANCE MUSIC? Why DANCE MUSIC? For the dancing? The excercise?

Do people ever listen to anything other than DANCE MUSIC when they're on E?

It seems as though people are so self concious about the fact that they're taking e's and going to DANCE parties/clubs that they forget all the other effects that the drugs they're throwing down their throats have on them, and instead, just do the same thing over and over again like zombies. Why not use the drugs for something different other than just mindlessly DANCING all night??

Why not take an e, chill out, and listen to some jazz?

Or some interesting metal?

Or maybe some good r&b perhaps? :D

I'd hate to have wasted all my e experiences by doing the same thing every time i had one.

Ever played a good 2D shooter video game whilst on an E?

Or had a game of backyard soccer?

Or danced to Latin music?

Or written a song?

Or painted a picture of something?

Or sat around a campire with an accoustic guitar singing songs with friends?

Oops, the thread's titled "Raves" isn't it?

My mistake.

Keep on telling yourself that..... Or try going to a few without taking the...err.. substances beforehand and see how much the 'dancing' is fun.

Drugs is drugs is drugs....

I have had some of the greatest nights of my life going to parties while being straight or on the piss. Dont make such a general judgement.

Each post previous to this you equate Raves/Dance/Drugs together.

Btw alcohol counts (and yea I imbibe) too.

If you generalise in your posts, I will generalise in mine.

Those are all good suggestions...however, judging by the music inspired by Ectasy so far, I doubt anyone would want to hear a song written while on it.
However, I reckon you could produce some pretty nifty art pieces on the gear :D
Sitting around a campfire would go alright as long as you replaced logs with podiums :D

Good cal anywayl. I'm not dissing anyone who's into the whole rave/drugs scene btw. Each to their own - you only live once (remember that though while you're enjoying yourself)

I prefer live bands :D Don't need drugs to enjoy it, don't need drugs to dance to it! :D

dunno really. Ive never had the oppurtunity to have one at home...altho ive still been peaking once when i came home...went on the computer and it was ok.

my friend put a whole bunch of Aussie and UK underground hip hop/rap on and for the first time ever i enjoyed that style of music.
Also listened to System of a Down - Toxicity and went nuts over it.

i havent just danced all night, ive talked to new people, made new friends, had in depth convos with other friends, sat down by myself and thought about life etc.

Or some interesting metal?

System of a Down is AWESOME on E!!!!

Ever played a good 2D shooter video game whilst on an E?

dancing is fun.....i enjoy all those types of music just as much sitting in my room with headphones on as if i was offtap at a rave. The music comes first....dancing comes second....drugs come third. You can have fun with the drugs without the music and dancing....you can have fun with the music and dancing without the drugs

i've never actually been toa rave but my friend is like "u gotta come u gotta come!" and i'm like.... "yeah i don't think i'd enjoy it... i don't like the music and yeah..."
but i thin kshe still wants to take me so i dunno!
